I had an old Mallet sitting in the shop made from Lignum Vitae I bought at a yard sale, it looked rough on the outside, so I decided to do a little repair work on her....cut it up into turning squares and made this trumpet from the first piece. I like the sapwood contrast in the wood, also there is no finish on this trumpet, as it has so much of its own wax in the wood I just had to put it on the polish wheel for a little while.....made the ferule out of a casing from the grave yard where they had a veteran's funeral and did a twenty one gun salute, the mouth piece is buffalo horn.

noisy box call that seems to sound like a flock of juvenile hens pecking their way through a wheat field

Very nice Pappy, I also like the contrast of the sap wood!!!

Beautiful call pappy.  I love the comment about the source of the ferule.  I have used lignum vitae as the large end of two piece strikers.  It is beautiful wood and has a great finish.  I originally tried to add a finish and after a week, it still was tacky.

Again, great looking and I am sure, a great sounding call
