Maxus advise/questions

New to the forum...been reading a while, but just signed up.

I'm looking at buying a new dedicated turkey gun.   Specifically looking at light-weight 3.5" auto-loaders.  I think I've pretty much settled on the Browning Maxus, but would like to hear about any experiences or advise yall may have with the maxus.

My main hang-up on the Maxus is barrel length.  I held off on buying one last year, hoping they'd come out with a "turkey version" with a shorter barrel, but doesn't look like that's happening.  I prefer a 23-24" barrel, but the Maxus only comes in 26-28".  Are there any after-market short barrels offered for the Maxus? 

Also looking for rec's on a choke.  Planning on shooting either MagBlend 5-6-7 or Winchester Xtreme #6s if either patterns well.

Have you considered the SX3?

I'm hearing more stories about the Maxus having problems lately.  Gold, Silver, Maxus, SX2, and SX3 are all of very similar design, but the SX3 IMO is the best of the bunch.

As far as chokes, the JH 670, ICBDS 675, and SD 667 are all great chokes for the Inv + bore.

What problems with the Maxus have you heard?  I really like the Maxus due to fact it's the lightest...also like the feel.  I already have 26" Gold, but would like to shed a pound or so.  I haven't looked at the SX3, but don't see it being any advantage over the Gold in the weight or barrel length categories

I have a Maxus 26 in love it. Shot it a bunch at doves and ducks NO PROBLEMS. I have a pure gold 670 and 6's and 7's (hevi) aint shot it yet, was going to today but RAIN. Hopefully tommorrow. Seen good patterns on here.

I've had the Maxus for about 6 months now. I've used for ducks only and shooting on the skeet range. I've had no problems with it except for a few operator error instances and those were only from not knowing the gun as good as I should. My main gun for Turkeys has been an 870 but have been working on patterning the Maxus. Going to be doing some this week will let you know how it does. I would recommend it. Chief.

I have a Maxus and Gold and never had any problems with the Maxus. The Gold did have some cycling issues but after I learned to clean it properly I never had another cycling issue again. Both are great guns but the Maxus sure is a lot lighter packing around.

Yep, definitely looking for a lighter package, or else I'd use my Gold.  I've used an SPS 870 with 23" barrel the past 15 years...killed alot of turkeys with it.  Just have an itch for a new gun, and the maxus is about 3/4lbs lighter than my 870.

Anyone know of any options for a shorter Maxus barrel?

Talked to Browning customer service a few weeks ago and was told that hopefully shorter barrels will be put out later this year.

A good gunsmith can cut the barrel off shorter and re thread it for chokes. There's a guy here that will do it for around $80

I shoot a browning gold with .670 Jelly head with magblend.  Patterns very well.

I got some magblend today - will pick up a JellyHead.  Anyone shot the Rhino choke?

What problems with the Maxus have you heard?

The piston springs breaking and some complaints on slop with the forearms.
