Remington Vows to Stay in New York ???

Well I was thinking about picking up a new Sho tgun From them until now , Im not sure how some of you feel about the laws that were passed in New York State
But I for one will not buy a nother gun from Remington.... Looks like a new SX3 20 Ga. for me...

It looks as if we now know where Remington stands when it comes to the government versus the people. After implementing some of the most restrictive guns laws in the country, many companies vowed to boycott the state of New York. Instead of following the trend, Remington instead announced that they will not only stay in New York, but also expand their operation by $20 million. Why you ask are they expanding? They have been awarded a $80 million contract for government sniper rifles.

The news came out from New York Congressman Richard Hanna regarding the contract. According to his website:
UTICA, N.Y. – U.S. Representative Richard Hanna today announced that Remington Arms has been awarded a nearly $80 million contract to produce more than 5,000 sniper rifles for the U.S. military. The work will be done in Ilion by Mohawk Valley employees.

The federal contract comes from the Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), a division of the U.S. Department of Defense. The contract will be awarded over the course of 10 years.

"The award of this contract to Remington Defense further shows that they are the premier manufacturer of sniper rifles for our Armed Forces," Rep. Hanna said. "I have full confidence that this contract will be fulfilled with the high quality and standards that define our Ilion workforce. I fully support Remington Arms and will continue working to ensure that the company and its dedicated employees can thrive in Herkimer County for generations to come."
This comes at the taxpayer's cost of a little over $16,000 per rifle over the next 10 years, but what good is the government for other than wasting taxpayer money?

Freedom Group owns Remington, but also many other gun manufacturers, including Marlin, DPMS, Para, and Bushmaster.

So you would rather they destroy the economy of an entire town and disrupt the lives of hundreds of loyal employees just to make a political statement? Thanks, but I'm happy to have them stay here and put their weight behind fighting the law rather than just throwing their toys out of the sand box like a spoiled five year old.

As a businessman I can only imagine the huge undertaking it would be to relocate heavy manufacturing plants and re-train a new workforce in another state.  Rest assured Remington executives are probably swallowing a bitter pill
to remain in a state that is no longer friendly to their type of business.   Remington has been a supplier to the US military for decades and certainly a fine manufacturer of sporting arms and I for one hope they remain active in both markets.

Limbstrutter,

Remington has been in our valley, the Mohawk Valley for almost 200 years. They have been providing jobs for us and our families for generations. Most people assume all of N.Y is the same, which is far from the truth. Unfortunately, the state is controlled by the liberals from downstate, NYC. Non of our representatives voted for this law Cuomo shoved down our throats in the middle of the night. We are in the fight of our lives right now to maintain our way of life.

Remington country is so far removed from NYC, it is probably more rural than many of the areas others live in or at least as much. We hunt, fish, trap, camp, go to high school football games, we have fish and game club all over the place with shooting ranges, we drive 4wd drive trucks, ride atvs, snowmobiles and dirt bikes. This is Remington country and has been for 197 plus years and for them to leave would be a win for the antis, not the 2nd amendment supporters who are in a battle with the state to get this unconstitutional law overturned.

58 of our 62 counties have filed resolutions against the law, the NYS Sheriffs assoc has come out against it, the NYS clerks assoc has come out against it, we have rallied in the capital with 1000s of people in attendance there and many other places. In fact, Albany has to repair all the damage to their lawn from the amount of people who walked on it. They just better wait till after this law is thrown out, as more rallies will be taking place. This is going to be the largest act of defiance in state history when its all said and done. So please, don't think money talks or Remington sold out....law abiding citizens standing up for their God given rights and marching on Albany to show we will not be made into criminals by the stroke of a pen is what talks!!

We have supported Remington for all these years and will continue to do so. Ilion is Remington and Remington is Ilion and some liberal from down state can not change who we are and what we believe in. The state has till the end of this month to prove this law was constitutional or a judge is placing an injunction on it.

So, could it be that Remington is actually supporting the town, the valley and the people that have helped Remington be a 200 year old company (the oldest company in North America) and they also know that this part of the state is controlled by the liberals from downstate? Remington sees what we as supporters of the 2nd amendment are doing and the fight we are taking to Albany. Could it be that Remington sees what is taking place across this country and what happens in NY, could happen anywhere? Remington leaving NY, where they have been for their entire existence, would be like a state driving out PETA Headquarters or the Human Society of the United States wherever they were formed. That would be a win for those of us who can not stand PETA, etc. but not for them, having to retreat/run from where they have their roots.

If Remington left this state or turned down a govt contract, what message would they be sending and to whom???  This state has been their home for almost 200 years and they should let some little weasel from downstate and all his cronies, who have been in this state, let alone on this earth for far less time than Remington has, push them out or make them change their business sense??  The only message them leaving or turning down a contract would be a message of victory for the antis who would love nothing more than to see Remington leave NY or fail.  You probably have no idea of the size of the pant and the machinery within it, but the cost to move a factory that size would be huge.

We do not need people dividing the ranks.  Everyone reads a little article on the web and assumes they have all the details and know all the answers and are now the main authority on the subject. NY is the proving ground as to what is going to take place across the country. The battle is fully engaged and we intend to win this. What we need is support from our fellow hunters and gun owners. Not a bunch of whining from them about what they think should have happened.

This military contract was a competitive bid that any gun manufacturer could have jumped in on. It has been going on for 3 years and SOCOM finally decided that the Remington MSR was the best bang for their buck.  The contract is for 5,150 rifle systems, which includes 4,696,800 rounds of Barnes Ammo (which Remington owns) and  AAC Titan QD suppressors.

What happens when these companies move out of one state and into another and the next thing they know, the same laws are being forced upon them there too? Do they pack up and run again? When do we/they decide to make a stand and fight?!! Antis love nothing more than to see these companies tuck tail and head to new areas. Cuomo would loved to have seen Remington leave. In fact, it is said that he was heard saying that companies leave everyday...no big deal.  People from the outside looking in, always have the right answers.  This valley and this county are glad Remington chose to stay and gave the liberals and anti the bird.

I am sure that Remington's share holders would love to see Remington turn down an 80 million dollar contract to make some point and that the money they would spend to move the company out of the state is of no importance either??  Sure, close their doors, spend money to move and turn down a contract all at the same time.  Great business sense.  Next thing, Remington will need to close their doors and go out of business all together because of irresponsible decisions you think they should have made.

Whoever thinks Remington should have turned down the contract or needs to leave NY, then they wouldn't have a problem sending in some of their own funds in support right?  How about sending some money to the town and county once Remington leaves for the people and business who are going to lose money because of it??

Many of us have had family in this valley for 100s of years. This part of the state was a proving ground back in the 1700s as a prime strategic stronghold and we find it is once again in 2013. Our families fought the French and Indians during the French and Indian War as they burned and raided this valley. Our families once again had to fight the loyalists/tories during the American Revolution, as they attempted to do the same. The true last battle of the American Revolution was fought just up the road in Oct of 1781, the battle at West Canada Creek where patriots killed Col Butler and sent his remaining forces running back to Canada. Now in 2013 we find ourselves in a political/judicial battle, fighting a dictator from downstate who has decided to enact unconstitutional laws against law abiding citizens in the dead of night, which effect our way of life and the life we love. We choose to once again make a stand and fight!!!!!!!!!

Well said Fallsflight...To be honest, my first reaction was the same as Limbhangers'. I wrote Remington and expressed to them that my future purchases would hinge on their answers regarding the contract and their decision on whether to stay or not...You've brought up plenty of valid points. I've not gotten a response from Remington yet...Like Limbhanger, I'll be interested in how they'll engage New York state. Hopefully your efforts will yield fruit...I'm with ya'!

surehuntsalot

they can stay where ever they want to as far as I care
I don't and won't buy anything with the name remington on it unless it is at least 10 or more years old.
The junk they put out now I wouldn't use for a boat anchor, the sniper rifle contract,I sure hope they don't expect much out of them coming from remington
it's not the harvest,it's the chase

I'm with Limbstrutter. I admire companies like Magpul, that are willing to send a message that politicians understand, jobs and revenue. Remington should relocate to gun friendly state and offer to take their employees with them. Might give the employees a chance to escape the state GOV tyranny. I understand tradition, but it will never get better with all the LIB voters influencing your state and federal elections. Tradition Vs Constitutional rights, I'll take my Constitutional rights anyday. Nothing to do with toys in a sand box, it's about taking a stand for what is right. Smith & Wesson learned the hard way about gun owners and loyalty. Time for Remington to take a stand!!

Well here's my thoughts.  I still think Remeington makes some good shotguns and rifles.  But I do think it's high time that the folks of New York takes a stand and throws these people out of office and fights the gun laws that they are pushing.  You can either be a solution to fixing a problem or either be a part of the problem.  Take your pick and stand your ground firmly.  And I am not saying some folks aren't trying to do this, but your gov't is highly corrupt.  Those folks you have in office wouldn't stand a chance in MO.  Just saying.
