Here in Illinois my season starts next saturday.  Is it worth it to set up ground blinds the night before in the dark in fields or on field edges.  I wondered if they would be spooked if they just showed up all the sudden.  I dont really wanna drive 2 hrs south this weekend just to set up 2 blinds, then drive back.  I usually hunt run and gun, but figured it might be a good backup plan if there was rain in the forcast. Also, would it be better if the blind was just into the woods or in the field facing the woods.  The birds are of course coming from the woods, and like to skirt the field edges.  The fields have winter wheat and barley. Not sure how the rent farmer would feel if I put my blind out in the field.

The birds won't pay any attention to the blind. Set it up the morning of your hunt and you'll be fine. I've set one up in a field and had birds around it in 20 minutes.

I wouldn't set up a blind in a wheat field without first getting permission from the renter. Wheat is a valuable commodity and the blind and travel to the blind will damage the wheat. Getting permission is just the right thing to do. ;)

the birds don't care... they are all about movement. Just be still.
