Couldn't hunt opening morning, but from the sounds of it, everyone and their brother was after 'em on public..I wasn't sure how some of the birds I had scouted had faired.
Had 2 birds roosted last Thursday, but they didn't want to talk this morning. Got on another bird after flydown, but he hung up over a ridge with hens. While calling to him, this bird got fired up and came from a looooong way away to 100 yards in no time flat. He hung up on the other side of a creek/ditch, but the silent treatment did him in. He was spitting, drumming, strutting, and gobbling all the way to the end of of my barrel.

I remember the public land in SC as getting lots of pressure and I hunted it from the mountains to the coast.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons. However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.
