Check out this Turkey Hunting Guide link I found on the WI DNR website.  Some good info, tips and reminders.

"Never shoot at a turkey
beyond 40 yards."
I might let one get closer than 40 yds ....if I was bowhunting!

I think 50 is now the new 40 yd standard. At least for guys who pattern and can hit what they aim for.  They also say you're not supposed to shoot em on the wing, but man I just couldn't resist the way that giant foot long stretched out neck looked on either of those birds.  ;)

I am staying with Magnum Blend Hevi and try to stay under 50 (taking range finder).

Gobblestopper - read some of Archibald Rutledge's turkey hunting stories (written from the WWI period through the late 1960's).  He hunted turkeys with #4 lead in his right barrel and #2 lead in his left barrel; he shot more than one that was flying overhead with those #2's.   Once I get a bird this year I plan to use #5 lead in my right barrel and #2 lead in my left barrel (a '30 era M21 Winchester choked CYL and CYL) - going to be a close shot or I won't take it - want to try hunting gobblers "old school" a little - box call, SxS, and brown canvas.

"I admire a good turkey hunter chiefly because such a man displays qualities that we usually associate with pioneer America-patience, enthusiasm, woodcraft, game sense, and a quiet hardihood undaunted by rain, by cold, by long tough miles, by disappointment."
Archibald Rutledge

This team definately needs some type of guide to learn how to hunt!
Red meat isn't bad for you, fuzzy green meat is bad for you.

If it eats I can catch it, if it bleeds I can kill it.
