Should I switch choke or load

I shoot a Pure Gold on my 835 ulti mag but I don't see the amount of hits on a 10" group on 40yds that others are getting.  I have fired about 40 round through my gun and my avg. results are below.

Hevi 3.5"  2.25  w/140 hits @40yds
Hevi 3" #6  w/120 hits @40yds
Win Supremes  3" #5 1.75  w/75 hits @40yds
Win Supremes  3.5" #6  w/75 hits @40yds

I do get better groups with my original mossberg choke, I think it is a .695
I have polished my barrel a couple of times and actually started cleaning by barrel between shots to try and better my results.

Does my 835 just not like the Pure Gold?  Should I keep trying new loads?  Suggestion are appreciated.

those high dollar chokes are not all they are cracked up to be
it's not the harvest,it's the chase

Yeah, no kidding.  I contacted Pure Gold by email and Bradley recommended the Nitro loads.  I actually bought the Pure Gold thinking I would be able to shoot off the shelf ammo.

Gobble!

All those hevi shot numbers will kill a bird everytime
You could try the H13 #7s if you want better numbers

your basing that off one guys pattern? Have you seen some of the other numbers people post?

Just shotguns being shotguns.. The PG H 13 combo is deadly for a lot of folks.. But it may not be for you..

If you haven't I would highly recommend the bore polishing sticky at the top, them Mossbergs are sometimes ugly inside.. Also clean your barrel in between shots if you are not.. You could also step up to the 7s

ole835

I know you're right, Gobble.  Those Hevi patterns are OK.  I just know this gun is capable of better.

Thinking of going with a JH choke although I'm not quiet sure how a choke with less constriction would deliver a tighter pattern.

Are you shooting at a big enough target to ensure that you are getting the most dense part of your pattern for your 10" circle?  As long as the 140 and 120 counts were pretty evenly spaced, you shouldn't have much trouble killing a bird.  I'd step up to the #7's as well.

And I'm not 100% sure of the specifics, but the internal makeup of chokes has a lot to do with how it will perform, not just the constriction.  I have a .570 choke that outperforms a .550 choke in my 20 gauge in both how even the pattern is spread and how many hits are in the 10" at 40 yards.

If your barrel is 24" try shooting it dirty but brush the choke between shots.
You should be getting at least 180 with the H13 2.25 6's!
Also check the exit end of your choke to see if it is chamfered evenly all the way around the exit edge.
If not send it back for a new one!

I'm shooting at paper that is 36"x36" to ensure I'm getting the meat of the load on the target and I have been.

I just did some google searches and read that if the patterns has gaps in them that the choke maybe too tight.  Some of my targets from yesterday actually have some gaps as big as my fist.  I have small hands.

That PG .670 and the 835 is a proven combo here.  If you are interested in changing chokes, try the Indian Creek or Jelly Head.  The IC is .675 and the JH is .690.  If I was to shoot Hevi 2.25 oz #6, it would be through the IC, not the PG.

Thanks JohnDoe.  I'm buying the Jellyhead tomorrow.  I'll pattern sometime this week and post the results with different loads just in case someone else is interested.
