Ear plugs

So I don't know about you guys but I have to take a annual hearing test for my job and the lovely crack of a shotgun blast isn't the best for me. But wearing ear plugs kind of seems counter intuitive  when listening for gobblers. So curious as to what you guys do

Well fellas you need to wear muffs at least when shooting. This past October I lost the hearing in my right ear. Doc says it ain't coming back. I'm deaf no ifs ands or buts.It sucks,but I still have my left ear thank God. Gonna take better care of it.

This is what I more or less meant. I can loosely put my plugs in my ears and hear pretty dam well and then just a slight push and I am good to go granted I am not getting full protection but something is better than nothing

I've went so far as to use earplugs doing chores and projects just because I've noticed a hearing loss that I think is from too many years of abuse.  Always use protection shooting except in the field.

You may want to check out Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas web sites and look under Hearing protection and enhancement.Styles range from muffs to hearing aids that enhance your hearing but cancel out muzzle blasts.Looks like prices and reviews vary greatly.Maybe some members on here can help you out with what brands and models are best.

I've went so far as to use earplugs doing chores and projects just because I've noticed a hearing loss that I think is from too many years of abuse.  Always use protection shooting except in the field.

This.  I've lost a fair amount, especially in my left ear.  Mostly from shooting they say.
Protect what you got.  I need to get something that helps enhance but protects too.

Due to loosing some of my hearing in my left ear a long time ago, shooting pistols, I can't shoot a shotgun or any loud gun without getting a ringing in my ear for several long days. It just wasn't worth shooting at ANY time anymore, to go through that.

I ended up buying the Walkers Game Ears many years ago, and going to a hearing aid specialist who I took my Grandmother to for her hearing aids. He made molds for my ears which greatly helped instead of the foam roll up ends on the Game Ears. Cost around $400.00 for the 2 Game ears, and the molds, but how much is your hearing worth? Once it is gone, it's too late.

I've been using these Game Ears (just looked at receipt) since 3/18/2004.

I use the game ears as well .

I also use ear muffs that enhance lower volume sounds while cutting out loud sounds. Mine are "Impact Sports" brand and they work great. I can sit in the woods and hear cars that are .75  miles away, but sound like they are much, much closer. I can also hear a gobble pretty far away. Walking in the leaves sounds like a heard of elephants with those ear muffs, but gun blasts are subdued. You can find these or something similar for under $100.

For hunting, i don't leave home without it.

Left ear for me too.  I'm really thinking of getting some Game ears.
