I'm gona ask yall a dumb question .......What does a trout taste like ? Catfish ? Bass? I live in South Louisiana and the only trout we have here are Specks & White trout in the salt water. They taste like a Sacalait or prolly what yall call a crappie.  I have been to Tennessee, South Carolina,  & Misouri and seen them in the the streams. My wife and I almost hired a guide on our Honey Moon, in Gatlinburg for a trip. I went to the hatchery at Table Rock Lake in September and spenk a few hours watching the guys fly fishing in the stream. Pretty cool looking sport!

They are good as are Catfish, Bass, Speckled Trout and crappie.   I haven't had much luck catching them in the wild but I have eaten them baked, smoked and they are great.  I have caught Rainbows from a stocked lake in North GA mountains.  It is fun we took the whole family and my girls had a blast.  We ate them the whole week we were in the mountains.  We try and return there when we can.   In the stocked lake they ran from 2-5 pounds.   Nothing like wild "I know" but still fun to tie into a 5 pound rainbow.  5 1/4 my best.   I was staining my deck and working on my cabin and took one night and ran up in the mountains with my daughters and niece and nephew and screamed and yelled while catching.  Time well spent with kids.  The stocked lake is the way to go with kids and their attention span.

That is the only kind of fishing I do these days.. for Native Brookies.. and don't do as much of that as I would like .. Bass fishing too boring for me..

The biggest Native I ever caught was 13.5 inches.. I was with my cousin once when he caught a 15 incher.. both of these in WV .. nothing like a mountain stream and some brookies to make the soul feel good.. good way to spend an afternoon in the spring after hunting the morning for gobblers.. our quiting time is 1:00 PM in WV ..   they are in my Opinion the best eating Trout there is, I like em anyway really, but favorite is to grill them wrapped in foil with butter on them and put a slice of bacon in them..

THE BIGGEST ONE WAS 14"  ALL CAUGHT ON LIVE MINNOWS.

Its hard to categorize trout as a whole.. Compared to whiter meated fish, they are stronger fish taste, which I like.. Think Salmon

The meat on a native brookie is pinkish orange. I believe that they are actually in the char family. Not positive on that, but I think so..They taste great, rolled in seasoned flour and pan fried in butter. It don't get much better than that..Mike

The brook trout is a Char they are great cooked as you mentioned and they are also good smoked. Hatchery trout are not that good to eat the only ones I eat are native fish seeing how they havent been eating those dang nasty pellets the hatcherys feed the fish. I live 2 min away from a naturally reproducing brown trout stream and fish it every day I get the chance to. When I get into the head waters I start hitting the Brookies. My biggest brook is 17.5 inchs caught in PA.

Yes brookies are in the char family. I prefer char over trout. I really like the Dolly Varden I caught in British Columbia. I don't know what southern trout are like but the ones from the cold water up here are unbelievable. IMO fish from cold water taste better than when there caught in warmer water temps.

I have seen them cook them on TV and it looked totally different than anything I've seen down here.............I still would like to try it, just to say I did. A buddy of mine boiled some Lobster like we boiled Crawfish a couple of years ago..............WASN'T IMPRESSED AT ALL !

I pan fry as mentioned or grill.. Too me they are as fine a eatin fish as anything, the flavor comes from the fish and not what they are rolled in.. Pair these with some fresh morels and asparagus and you have a awesome meal..

They are very good, I would compare them to salmon both texture and taste.

  Nice catch!  You stream guys ever try a little jig called "trout magnet".  Let me tell you they work.  I don't bother with live bait or spinners anymore.
