Folks, first of all let me say that I'm a pro-staffer for 1Up Game Calls but that's on the turkey side of the operation. I'm a lousy bowhunter, let's just get that out right in front. Tonight I decided to go out and sit a stand that has a pond to the south, wind from the SW, more S than W (but it was SUPPOSED to be more out of the west). OK, so I'm approaching the stand from the west wearing 1Up Fresh Earth scent killer. About 150 yards from the stand I see a doe & a fawn right under (north) of my stand. I ease over into the edge of the pond and they kind of sense me but move to the NE pretty gradually. I'm actually able to get up into the stand with them no more than 120 yards away to the NE, across the field! I finally get settled into the stand and they're meandering around, gradually feeding away from me. Now, keep in mind, the wind is blowing from me to the left of where they're at. I figure, "Nothing to lose," and I grab my 1Up Grunt Tube. I blow a few small buck grunts and get their attention but no interest. I switch it to the young doe and grunt a couple of times and then throw a bleat or 2 at them. That doe THREW her head up and looked for a while but went back to feeding. I repeated and got great response and THIS time she started meandering MY way. She worked back and forth, zig-zaggin towards me and she eventually worked her way to a position NW of me and stopped, looking forward. I settled my 25 yard pin on her and released... right over her back. Where she was, I had nothing in the field for a point of reference to know exactly how far she was. Bummer on the shot (but it WAS a clean miss), but KUDOS to 1Up for making a grunt tube that even I can operate and scent killer that puts 'em on the wall (as long as the shooter does his/her job)! I hope that this isn't out of line to post someting like this, please advise if I'm in the wrong. Thanks!
