"My cup overflows" (Psalm 23:5).
Continuing with the banquet imagery in the second half of Psalm 23, King David praises the Lord, who anoints his head with oil and who richly fills his cup.
The Lord is treating His guests with honor, as a rich man usually treats his guests. He does this through His Word of grace. Through the Word, the Lord, our Shepherd, feeds and strengthens the hearts of His believers. Oh that we would devour His Word as we devour other things in this life!
The cup of blessing that David receives and that we receive through Jesus Christ warms more than our hearts and our minds. The cup is a metaphor for the gifts a host offers to his guests. As a guest invited to the feast of the Lamb, you have been given, by your Heavenly Father, a cup that overflows.
An overflowing cup of grace, earned by Jesus Christ, is yours dear friend. This cup is more than a metaphor that makes you feel good about belonging to your Father. In His holy Word, the Bible, there is real strength and power for living.
His living Word dwells in you richly as you read and believe each sentence. Have faith/confidence in what you read. His Word is alive and eternal. His Word keeps you spiritually alive and eternal. As the Great Host, He knows how to fill a cup!
Today, dear friend, set aside a time to open your Bible and let Him fill you with forgiveness, wisdom, and life.
