Trumpet call suggestion
July 22, 2012, 10:10:43 AM
I'm looking to buy a trumpet call this year, but I am litterly ignorant of them. It appears they have become almost as popular as mouth calls now and lots of people are making them. They are pretty high priced so I hope to buy one that sounds good the first time. I really could care less what the thing looks like, but I want one that will talk turkey. Who makes a trumpet that can strait talk turkey and pretty user friendly?

Theres not a trumpet out there you are going to pick up and start running out the box, it's going to take you quite some time to figure one out....trumpets have become fairly popular as of late but I think it's mostly the though of having one that makes them buy....very few put the time in to actually learn the proper way to run them and have the dedication/confidence to take them in the woods. There are a lot of great trumpet builders on here, one that builds a superb hunting trumpet that looks great and sounds even better that won't break the bank in MMclain ( Matt McLain ) trust me you will not me disappointed, and if you are I'll buy it from you.

I would add Billy Buice to the list. You can get interchangeable mouth pieces and sound like a young hen or old hen on the same call. Plus you will not find a nicer man to do business with.

X10, I don't know why I didn't add Billy's name, his call is one of the best.....his mouth pieces are great for beginners as well.

Thanks for all the replies and PM's.
Is there any certain wood that you would recommend?

It needs to be hard. If you see it used for the body of a boxcall, it is too soft. Ebonys, blackwoods, rosewoods, osage orange, desert ironwood. A lot of your older trumpet builders have just certain woods they will use.
