Remington Nitro Turkey #6's put 93 in a 10" circle at 40 yards

Winchester Supreme HV #4's put 78 in a 10" circle at 40 yards

Assuming they were both even patterns, what would you choose and what would be your max range.

I know neither pattern is great at 40 yards but I'm not really planning on shooting that far

i would buy some more loads til i got at least 100 in the 10 at 40yds. other wise the nitros at about 35 yds

fair enough, I have heard that 80 #4's would be as good as 100 #6's so thats why I was considering them

I'd use the #4Pb loading.

It'd still be 40 yds. You are already at the low end (78), pattern density wise at 40 yds. That's why I chose the 6s. Sixes are way more than lethal at 40 yds, and the pattern is much denser giving you a better chance of hitting vitals. Neither pattern is suitable for shots beyond 40 yds.

Thanks, I wouldn't use this setup past 40 yards but I was wondering if you would reduce it even more to something like 35 yards.

And to your previous comment I have tried winchester #6's before with this setup and patterns were not as good as with the Remington's

TRY A TIGHTER CHOKE !!!  :icon_thumright:

Yes I'm sure I could have better patterns with a different choke tube, but shipping to Canada can be expensive and there aren't a lot of options in stores north of the border.  So for now I am just going to use this choke tube as I have in the past few years.

It's a Remington super-full lead only choke tube in .665 constriction.
