Is this beard rot?

Called this bird in this morning and thought he was a jake when I saw his beard.  As I was watching him strut and gobble I noticed he had a full fan. Then when he crossed railroad bed on the gravel I could see his spurs. After giving him a face full of nitros I see he has 2 beards. Thick base but no length. Is this beard rot or just a stubby bearded tom?
Go early, stay late, be patient and sit still.

Heres the spurs that dont match the beards. LOL

Looks like a stub to me. Beard rot will be discolored. Could it have froze off .They sometimes freeze and break in cold climates.

I agree.  Looks more like it's broken of instead of beard rot.
If I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer!

I also agree, every beard fungus I have seen has a redish or rust tent to it.

i have a Pet Gobbler here at the house. last winter his beard got wet while drinking from a cut off bucket.when i went down to feed him his beard looked like it had ice cubes hanging from it. he had a 12"beard that day. two days later he had a 6" beard.
Good things come to those who wait

That is really weird....looking back at the beard it looks like a clean cut across the base.  I agree with beard rot having a rustic tint to it and uneven edges.  Heck most of the beards I have are pretty uneven with some definite longer and shorter strands.  Either way, judging by the spurs and fan, sounds like you had a mature bird.  Congrats

May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Looks like he may have trimmed it to get through another season. He didn't figure your eyes were good enough to see his spurs.

That is not beard rot, it was probably froze and broke off.

I wish we could have some pimpin' gobblers like that around me.

Punisher

I think he probably trimmed up for turkey season hoping to look like a jake and get bypassed by hunters.  Looks like his plan failed. :TooFunny:
