Wisconsin Hunters: Question

Our son recently moved to Wisconsin and is planning on turkey hunting the first week of May. He mentioned something about his red dot scope to someone, and they told him they weren't legal. I'm thinking the guy was mistaken, but figured I could get a quick answer on here. If it were primitive weapons season for deer or something like that, I'd not be surprised, but spring turkey hunting with a shotgun? Anyway, thanks for any info. Neill

Red Dot scopes are perfectly legal in Wisconsin.  The guy your son talked to?.........not a reliable source of info.  What's scary is that we share the highways with these people.

They are legal. When in doubt, contact the DNR of the state you or your son are hunting in.

They are perfectly legal. If not I am in big trouble cause I just dialed mine in yesterday. Like jayjay said the DNR is the best source for answers if other sources seem sketchy. There are a lot of guys out there that really know what they are talking out but unfortunately there are a lot more that don't and aren't man enough to simply say I don't know and go on to tell their interpretation (far be it from truth) of the rules.

Like others have said, they are legal.  IMO, Where some guys run into trouble is the
laser types where they actually "throw" a beam onto the target. The DNR puts these
types into the same catagory as spotlights.

I'm guessing this is what the fellow was thinking about when he told him they were illegal. Thanks for the replies.

The only mention of anything related is indeed laser sights, not red dot, on page 8, "It is illegal to use or possess laser sights while hunting unless you are visually handicapped and possess a Class C Disabled Permit."
