I was hurrying to finish sighting in my gun last night and thought once i was finished i had an entire box of Hevi 13- 3/2/7's. I didn't. I have 3 shells left and no number 7's can be found locally.

I can order them but they won't be here in time for the opener.  I can't even find the Mag Blends locally.

So, my question is that since I am using #7's will i be that much different in shot count shooting 5's, or should i just not hunt until i can get some #7's in?

ILIKEHEVI-13

I have shot one of the Hevi-13 3" 1.75oz #5 and it put like around 140 shot in the 10" at 40yds.  That's a plenty.

shoot 4, 5, 6's go get some Winchester or Remington lead turkey loads they still kill turkeys. I wouldn't miss opening day just because I couldn't find more #7's. You don't need 200+ pellets to kill a turkey at 40yards It is nice to have but If I am getting 100 at 40 that is more than enough in a 10" circle. Heck 80 #4s is way more than enough for a 40 yard turkey gun. Just shoot the fives out of it and see I'm sure they will work just fine.

Honestly, you'd consider sitting out until you got more 7's in? Wow, just shows how intently some people believe they have to have hevi shot with 300 pellets in a 10" circle to kill turkeys lol. I know people who don't use anything but lead 4's and tag out every year, they don't get wrapped up in counting lil holes in paper they just hunt. For the record, I shoot hevi 6's, but if I was to suddenly run out theres no way I'd miss out on hunting time waiting to get more. I'd just go to walmart, grab some winchester HV loads, verify that they print a sufficient pattern and go kill turkeys.  :OGturkeyhead:

I would shoot low brass field loads if that is all I had! I certainly wouldn't sit out a day of hunting over pellet count. Just run the 5's and tag your tom!

Why can't you use the three shells you have left? It should only take one anyway, right?

TauntoHawk

thats what I was thinking.. if 3 shells aren't enough to kill a bird id be back at the patterning board looking for a shell that could

I only take 3 shells in my gun and leave the extra in the truck.

I'd put a hevi 7 in the bbl and 6s or 5s in the mag.  3 7 shells oughta be enough for 3 toms.

I'm still a #4 lead guy and no problems here.
More important then count is your POI so take a shot to make sure your on and go slay some turkeys.

Stuff those 3 7's in your gun and go hunting. And if you run out I'll bet those 5's will do just fine.
If I had a dollar for every gobbler I thought I fooled I'd be well off!

Put in the 7's and hunt.  Just place an order for the 7's and they should be there in just a few days anyway.  I ordered 4 boxes the other day and they came in 4 days.

Take a kid hunting

3 shells = 3 dead turkeys, if you do your job.  Hunt until your order comes in!
