My grandsons Kolbi (12) and Tanner (11) went out with me last Friday , Kansas Youth Season. Kolbi helped call in his tom a rio with 8.5" beard and 1" spurs to 25 yards just after flydown and took with my Mossberg 835 and Star Dot combo...2 3/4" Winchester # 6 turkey loads , lead. Tanner shot his jake about a half hour later , same spot, at 20 yards, with his Mossberg 500 turkey gun and Pure Gold .555 , 3" Winchester # 5 lead turkey loads. We were hunting out of a Primos ground blind we set up that morning. Used a Jake Mobile with real jake fan and a hen decoy.
The tom came to the ground blind where he heard the call...I don't think he paid any attn to the decoys. ...the jake (one of three that came in) was all about the decoys.
