I have a pot call thats made of cedar and the body has become sticky....all over...don't know if it was the deet in my pocket that got on it or what...but its sticky like sap sticky....how can I clean it off without damaging it?

West Augusta

Send it back to the callmaker. Have him sand it down and refinish it. DEET is hard on call finishes.
No trees were hurt in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were highly inconvenienced.

DEET will soften the varnish making it tacky again.  If it wont dry back down you will have to sand it down and re stain/varnish it.  One other option (a risky one) would be to try denatured alcohol to remove the tacky varnish and then just revarnish it with a wipe on varnish.  I guess if it isn't usable the way it is then you have nothing to lose.  Good luck!

I rolled it around in the dirt so maybe it will wear off in time????
