How Close Before He Sees The Decoys

How close do you want the gobbler to be before he sees the decoys?  Do you want him to see them from a long way away?  Or not till he's practically on them?

i do alot of field work so they see em' a long ways away....but if yur hunting in the woods prolly gonna b close anyways...

I want them to see them as soon as possible.. otherwise whats the point in carrying them around

If he cant see them until the last minute, there's no sense in putting them out.

When I first started turkey hunting, I was a big decoy believer.  I almost wouldnt set up without them.  I learned that in some situations they are a waste of time, and sometimes they can even hurt you.  Hunting mostly in the woods, I very seldom use them now, but I do still carry a hen and jake for field setups.
