Talked to my buddy in Ky. this morning. His neighbor contracted either rocky mt. fever of lymes. Not sure which. After 2 years he still has problems. Hand shakes mostly. His doctor advised anytime you pull a tick out save it in a pill bottle. If you get sick the Dr. has something to examine that will make diagnosis that much easier. As well as help with recovery.

There other diseases that can be transmitted by ticks depending upon the area of the country you live in:

Here is a good reference for proper removal from the CDC:

Lymes sucks to be very blunt. My wife has been fighting it for over two years. She has been on some kind of antibiotic for just over a year. The Dr. she sees has a rotating regimen that patients run through so they don't build an immunity to one particular kind. At one point about a year and a half ago my wife was about 80% bed ridden for about a month.

Please be careful and take all precautions when you go into the woods to ward off ticks.

A  buddy of mine I work with....his wife got Lyme disease about 1 1/2 yrs ago.  They have had a time and took alot to finally diagnose her.  she has been on so many antibiotics it ain't funny and has cost them a lot of $$$$.  So its on my mind alot now!

I've had Lymes multiple times and it blows big time.  I'm on meds now for it because it got into my central nervous system and I had "brain fog"...started forgetting really simple things.  Scared the crap out of me.

How prevalent are ticks in Florida? Don't think I've ever seen one down here.

Prevalent.  See for yourself.

With the mild winters we had this year and the early warm temps this spring, ticks are going to out in force.  My advice to everyone is to invest in some permethrine and use it regularly on your clothes.  Lyme disease isn't anything to mess with.
