It is when a call goes from high pitch to raspy in a yelp.

Also known as break in a pot or break in the yelp.
No trees were hurt in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were highly inconvenienced.

People often talk about the pitch in the front end and rasp in the back, viewing a yelp as a two part call.
