I have looked a lot and am pretty confused on shimming my SBE and how it efffects POI. I have an old H&K that shoot low/left and is magnified with a turkey choke. It has the original low rib, not the stepped rib of todays guns. I currently have the D shim and D plate that was in it when I bought it used. I have a set of shims on the way from benelli. Short of just experimenting, can someone help be out?

I'm very interested in this post. I have the same gun and the same issue and need to correct it in about 3 weeks.

Replied to you over on the Benelli USA website.

The D shim offers the lowest drop, A the least.

So maybe try a C then B to get what you need.

Cast is harder with the SBE, because there is no factory shim kit like the SBE II has.  But, with an extra shim, and some sandpaper or Dremel drum sander, you can grind away at a shim and get a little cast.

You can also mess with the front bead, larger will offer more drop, smaller will offer less drop.

Or, you can even put a sight on it, that's what many of my friends do with a gun where POA doesn't match POI very well...

Good luck!

What or is there any difference in a H&K SBE than others???

Someone else can give a much better answer but I believe the Heckler & Koch were the first importers of the SBE.  It will have their name on the side of the reciever and they were the ones that would float the 4th shell with a plug in.  It has been a work horse of a gun and I wouldn't trade for any new one on the market.  I very well could be wrong and I hope someone corrects me if so.

Sometime in the late 1990's, 1998 I think, Benelli USA was acquired by Beretta Holdings, and the SBE changed a bit.

New style ejector plate; went from hockey stick to flat metal plate.

Also, around that time, the vent rib went from being flat to raised.  This didn't make too many folks happy though...

I have a H&K Benelli M1 Super 90 it's POI was low. I put the smallest front bead I could get and a little notched rear sight that attached to the rib. Now POA and POI are right on. I only use the rear sight for turkey hunting, it comes off for dove and bird hunting.
Spring turkey hunting, I love it so.                FREEDOM IS NOT FREE

An update on my POI issues:

I got new shims and installed a "B" shim and also swaped barrells with a friend.  I am still shooting at least a foot low.  I have my gun in a lead sled sighting down the rib with the factory beads.  I am shooting a Jelly Head and H13 3.5/7s.  I am now thinking that I have a bad choke tube.  It shoots a great pattern just to low.  I know some may say get a sight but I would really rather be able to sight down the rib to the bead.
