first off this is not me i found it somewhere else and wanted to hear you alls thoughts on this.

I was wondering about my total hits after patterning my gun.
The gun is a 12ga Mossy 500. I decided to use my 18-1/2" accu-choke barrel with an Undertaker extended turkey choke. I have a Pro Point red dot and am shooting 3", #5, copper plated lead turkey loads with 2oz of shot.

At 35 yards I am getting 30-40 hits in a 10" circle.
At 40 yards I am getting 20-30 hits in a 10" circle.

My question is, am I getting enough pellets in the circle? I have read several different posts regarding number of pellets getting in the circle. I also understand it depends alot on the shells / choke.

It seems like I am getting a pretty good number of pellets in the circle (especially with the shorter barrel) but I just want to be sure since this is my first year for turkey hunting.

That's not enough pellets. The minimum acceptable number of pellets in a 10" circle is 80.
Are you shooting at a 3'X3' piece of paper, than drawing a circle around the densest part? Your POI and POA may be considerably different.
Try some Winchester HV Supreme in #6 shot, and see what happens. Probably the best lead shell on the market.

I agree.  The likelihood is he isn't hitting where he is aiming.  This is what he needs to do.  At least 80 in a 10" puts 1 pellet per square inch.  We here like 100" for some wiggle room.  That is at whatever distance you want to be your max.

first i want to reiterate this is not me shooting this set up. and i never would even concider such a pattern.
i told the guy 100 in a 10 and basically dont even go after a turkey with less than 70 in the 10 everytime.
i told him to draw a circle around the densist part of pattern not to count what is in the circle that he shoots at.
however! i am affraid my advice is null and void as there are several people telling him that is good and he is good to go. so he told them thank you and he thought he was right where he needed to be.
