870 or 1187??  Barrel length??  Load??  How does it pattern at 40yards??  Thanks.   :OGturkeyhead:

BIGGUS

I can let you know next week! I just ordered one from Cabelas (on sale) for my 23" 11-87 and I shoot Hevi 3.5" #7's. Hopefully well. The .650 Jeb's I'm shooting now put 239 in the 10" and 481 in the 20". We'll see if it can improve on that.  :newmascot:

My Dad uses the H13 choke in his 870.

Excellent patterns with H13 6s in 2 3/4" shells.

Never counted them as it is a 1.5 oz load, but have watched quite a few birds die from the pattern resulting from that setup.

I'm shooting one in a SM with a 26 in barrel. 3/1/2 mag blends shot well last year, if I remember it was around 200 average. I'm shooting this years 7s now and averaging 220 to 230 with nice even patterns.

I shoot all varieties of the Hevi-13 chokes including the Hevi-13 choke threaded for Rem-Choke barrels. I get good even patterns with all of them. I have to look at some old patterns to give you numbers.

Thanks,
Clark

I took the old 1187 to the shooting range today and tried some Magnum Blend 3" ammo in it at 40 yards.  It has a 21" barrel and the temperature was about 60 degrees.  Since I'm out of TSS and can't get any before our season begins, I guess I"ll be hunting with this setup.  It averaged about 210 in a 10" circle with an IC 665. I never shot Magnum Blend in a 3" gun before so this should be about average.  What do you all think and has anyone else tried these in a Remington? They were $ 17.99 a box.

Shot the 3" hevi-13 2.oz #6's and only got 188 in a 10 ''

What numbers are you getting?

thanks brian

Brian, I noticed in your post that you were shooting an IC .665 tube.  Have you tried the Hevi-13 .662 choke with that gun??

NO I HAVE NOT BUT LIKE TO !

Scout24

Ordered one 3 days ago from Mack's Prarie Wings, $49.95 with free shipping. Also some 3 1/2", 2 1/4 ounce Hevi 13 for $24.95 with $5 rebate, also with free shipping. Will let you know it shoots after I pattern it.

Scout24

Got to put three rounds through the new HeviShot choke tube and was fairly impressed, would have shot more but breezy and threatening rain. New lot #787 put 203 and 193 at 40 yds/10". Last years lot#526 put 188/40/10", all Hevi-shot 3 1/2", 2 1/4 ounces of  #6's out of a 11/87 SM. Shot better patterns in past years but not recently, so I'll take it.

Don't know if there's any truth about the "breaking in" of new choke tubes I've been reading about but I did pound out 12 old pheasant loads as fast as I could stuff them in, before I shot, just in case.

TrophyTracker

My 24" bbl 870SM shoots 3in Mag Blends like a champ, as well as #7's. I have been hunting with the 3in loads with total confidence, even though I have a gun capable of shooting the 3.5's.

The tube is not nearly as finicky as others I have tried when testing across the range of loads.
