I have not yet made an attempt at making a pot call, my limited woodworking skills and more important my limited budget are a hinderance, but someday....
However, I have noticed in my somewhat limited observations that friction call surfaces have changed over the years. Now I will admit for a long time I thought the big box stores and big mail order catalogs carried all the turkey calls manufactured in the world, and had no idea what was out there. Anyway, as I began to discover what I was missing in the real world of turkey callers I didn't see the same surfaces, I'm not saying they weren't made, I simply didin't see them. For example, I had a Knight and Hale Ol' Yeller. Which at the time I thoght was a pretty good caller. That was 15 years ago, its seems that only now is the similar ceramic surface becoming popular with the custom / not mass produced call makers. I also had a Black Mamba by Preston Pittman which had what I think was a carbon fiber surface, which I have never seen again. Does that mean its a terrible surface, not available, too hard to work with, etc? Or has the custom crowd not tackled it yet. Again I know I have not seen half of whats out there, just my observations and questions, and I apologize for rambling!! What do you think?
