Im wanting to take my 6 year old daughter out for our Pa turkey season . She is tall for her age not puney at all . She has been with me on a couple hunts and I even killed a doe with her . She's really into hunting . Anyway here's my question . What do you think about setting up my SBE2 with a ff2 and loaded with low brass 6's and an improved cylender choke ? Set my decoys up at 15 yds. I myself think it will easily wipe a bird out !We will be hunting out of a ground blind . Just looking for some of your opinions on this set up .

I've never taken out a kid under 8 but your gun should work fine as long as the butt stock of the gun isn't to long for her.  I've taken many kids out on youth hunts and regular season hunts and had great success with 2.75" low brass #5's. Just keep the shots under 20 yards and its lights out. I always started the kids off with a .22 and worked up to light 12ga loads. As long as the kid is confident with it and not scared of it is the main thing. Hopes this helps.

My 6 yr old boy so wants to go Turkey hunting as well.  Took him to the shooting range and the noise didn't bother him (had good ear protection on), took him to sit in a ground blind while friends drove our woods (Already had knocked down 3 bucks and a doe opening day) and he handle the sitting very well.  He was so proud that the shooting was one of the guys getting a nice doe.  I told him if he continues being very responsible I would take him to sit and call turkeys, but not while I have a gun.  Legal age here is 10 as a mentor which they just started and plenty of things to shoot till then.  I'm worried hearing a 3.5 turkey load in a ground blind might scare him silly! Miss the old Pigeons for target practice long killed them all of at the farm.  Biggest thing I would worry about is too much gun too quick.  BB/Pellet guns, then .22...  Biggest concern is closing eyes before pulling the trigger anticipation of the kick.  At the end of the day you know your kids better then any of us, and what the comfort level is.

I started my son scouting a 5. took him with me hunting at 8 and he killed his first turkey at 12. I started him with a youth 20ga 870. patterned good out to 38yds. I started him shootin it with low base 2 3/4" shells that i had laying around. He never shot a turkey load till he killed a bird. I'd let her shoot some low base 2 3/4" shells at turkey targets so she get the idea where to hold and isn't afraid of the gun. The first few times i let the boy stand up and "lean" into the shot a little, then he practiced from a traditional sitting position.

I totally agree with Spuriosity, 7.5 would be fine at that range and alot more pellets than 5 and 6.  Only problem I see would be the gun being way to long, length of pull, for her.  I have an 870 youth set up for my daughters with an adjustable stock and they work great for any size frame from the kids to adults.  Definately have shooting sticks or some type of rest to hold the front of the gun.  Good luck to both of you!

She likes to shoot with her head laying on the stock while I hold the butt of the gun . I tried letting her use a gun with the butt cut down to fit a youth and she didn't like it at all she wouldn't even shoot it . And as far as the shooting sticks she don't like the either . She likes to rest the barrel on the window . She has a short kids type camping chair that works perfect for her style of shooting .

My only question is why am Im Cyl choke?  Why not opt for a full choke.  At 25 yards your pattern out of a regular old full choke wont be that tight.  That is what i squirrel hunt with.  Everything else should be fine.

Sounds like you've got the perfect excuse to put together a 20 gauge.
If not low brass 6's inside of 25 yards should be deadly. Try patterning with all your factory chokes and a few different shells. I set my son up with a 11-87 youth 20 and I'll be carrying it a lot myself this year.
