turning pots

when i turn pots out of very dense wood like coocobola , I get marks on the wood, tooling marks that I can't seem to sand out. Anyone have any tips for this?

I'm not sure if this is what I had happen a bunch or not.  I had a line showing up where wood was being ripped out instead of being cut, when turned.  Sharper tools may prevent this.  I was given a few suggestions, but the one I tried that I like is sanding the area after you have rubbed boiled linseed oil on it.  The boiled linseed oil will raise the wood grain and you will be sanding this creating a sludge that fills in this line.  If this isn't what you are describing I'm sure you'll get more and better advice shortly  .

yep, use a scraper, I have many and use all different sizes, the inside I use a round nose scraper, always sharpen and polish your chisels, some guys say this doesn't make any difference, but I tell you straight up it does, turn at a higher rate of rpm too, and apply lighter pressure to your cuts, this will produce nicer finishes.

Get those tools SHARP!!! Like pappy said, the roundnose scraper is your friend.

Sounds like your tools need to be sharper and your pressure on the wood needs to be less.smaller lighter cuts on the end. just my 2cents!
