Question for the trumpet turners?

What size blanks do y'all start with? I have tried everything from 3/4" to 1 1/2" stuff and seem to find that the 1" stuff works better for me. Just wondering

I like mine to start at 1 1/4" X 6".

It depends on the size of your trumpet. No reason to start a 1 3/4 x 8 if your trumpet is only 1/2 x 5. For me, usually start with the standard 1 1/2 x 6 and trim it on the table saw before heading to the lathe.
