Speaking of the gun cleaning thread......

for most of us, I would think we have a wide range of firearms.  Do you prefer to build your own cleaning kit to accommodate all you guns or is there a particular kit on the market you like/want/use that basically covers anything you can imagine, such as one from Otis or any other gun cleaning manufacturer?  Up to this point, I have just purchased individual components for cleaning, but as things wear out and need replacement I was thinking of getting a real good kit that covers all gauges and calibers.

I purchase individual items that suit my needs. Good rods, excellent brushes that are replaced regularly, Hoppe's #9 and pure cotton patches are the basis of my cleaning supplies.

I agree with Clark.  I think it is best to "customize" your own cleaning kit to suit your needs.  John

Mr. Clark, what is your opinion on bore snakes? looks like there a lot of people that use them.

I like Boresnakes and especially like the new Viper model. 

They will work to dislodge surface plastic and unburned powder from a bore. If I have a still target gun that likes just a surface cleaning between shots, I'll use one. Some guns like a slightly fouled bore better than a squeaky clean one, for example and that works well.

They are not however a substitute for a good regular cleaning or for the deep cleaning process.

I have assembled my own assortment of equipment and materials.

For my rifles I like boretech and patchout stuff the most

For shotguns I have some boretech shotgun blend I am going to try.  otherwise I like breakfree CLP

Over the years I have collected different things for gun cleaning.
The best thing I did was get a good fishing takle box, and put all my supplies there. Makes it very easy to keep all your cleaning supplies in one convinient spot.
