A look back at the last 27yrs of turkey guns and ammo. Does any of this sound familiar?
single shot 20ga with fixed Mod choked barrel:
Fed that baby 3" Remington Nitro Mags #4's
Win 1300 NWTF turkey gun Xfull choke (laminated stock with turkey scenes on receiver):
She liked the 3" winchester XX #4's and Remington 4x6's (ah ya duplexes)
Then came along the big dog Mossburg 835 3 1/2" Old "TW" (turkey widowmaker), Kicked like a mule, killed in front and crippled behind. Sent that baby to angle porting for some lengthened forcing cones, ports and custom ported turkey choke, kicked like a little mule then:
Started with 3 1/2" Winchester XX #4's
she really started to shine with the big 2 1/4oz Federal copper plated #5's
They were beat out by the 1 7/8 Remington hevi shot #5's (hevi shot era)
got me a cadalack turkey gun, 3 1/2" browning gold (love those big semi's):
The 2 oz Winchester XRHD #5's were the ticket,.. Until
Along came 2 1/4oz Nitro hevi 4x5x7's and a ported Rhino choke
Then along came OldGobbler and handloads of 2 1/8oz on Hevi 7's and 6x7's with a Ported Pure Gold .670 choke.
This Year I will be trying my new 2 oz TSS 9's and 8x9's.
What were some of the old turkey Killian setups do you remember?

I killed my first turkeys with a Rem 1100 2 3/4 Mod barrel/ Rem 4's. The gun was taped up with some of the original old school camoflauge tape. Inside 30yds it was a killer. My dad had his browning citori taped up with the same tape and he would shoot the rem 4's as well. I remember going to the Rem 4x6's like it was yesterday. I actually still have a few boxes of them and they pattern pretty dang good out of my 870.

Alot of that sounds familiar. Life was simple back then. An old side by side (borrowed) hand painted with them duplexes. Killed my first bird.

Started out with a Rem. 870 3in. that had a 30 inch barrel with a fixed full choke. Shot 3in. 4's or 5's and tried the duplex loads but that gun did not like them. Carried a call a gun and a few shells, now it looks like I am going on a week long safari when I leave the truck.
Spring turkey hunting, I love it so. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE

I started with a Stevens model single shot with a fixed full shooting the old Fed. Premium 6's in 2 3/4". Killed my first bird with it, got a Mossberg 500 field model and continued with the 2 3/4" 6's using the full choke, it killed alot of birds. In '06 I got my 835 and was shooting the old white's in #6 then last spring got a star dot and started shooting the 3.5" 6's and 7's. I used to only have a box call, glass call and a mouth call back in the early days, I bet my vest weighs 20lbs now I got so much stuff in it. I always joke that I'm going to war thats why I carry so much stuff with me

Stevens 20 ga single, full choke and winchester "hi-brass" # 5's collected my first bird; graduated to a 870 remington 12 ga 3 inch mag, fixed full choke; still use it and stills kills turkeys; did not have a screw-in choke system until about 6 years ago with a new 870 3 inch express; never been interested in shooting or buying a gun using 3 1/2 in shells, that's just me; if I can't kill'em with a 3 inch mag then I'll let him live; really enjoy using a 2 3/4 inch mag shell @ 25 yards or less; will probably break out the single barrel 20 and hunt with it this season for even more trips down "memory lane" just to prove it can be done...........
