which choke with hevi 7's

Want to switch both my turkey guns to hevi 7's and am looking for some input .  will do the work on the patterning just looking for little help to maybe cut costs as much as possible . The first gun is a browning bps , I have kicks 680 , briley 675 and carlsons 665 the second gun  is Franchi I-12 (benelli)  i have pure gold 670 and jelly head 655, the Franchi preferred the jelly head last year with hevi 6's  the bps has been my lead gun and has never really patterned hevi good but have not tried 7's in it  both guns are 3"  any help would be appreciated .

i cant speak for the BPS but the other i have a gun with the same basic bore diam. In my stoeger the 7's shoot the best with the chokes i have tried.

Sumtoy - 670 = 248 average 3" shell
sumtoy - 650 = 251 average 3" shell

IC 665 = 238 average 3" shell

the jellyhead out of mine was the worst at around 200 average but that may just have been my gun. Having said that mine is still a stoeger and yours a franchi so they are still not one and the same.

I shoot a Benelli Supernova with a Indian Creek .665 choke. Can't speak for the 7s as I've never tried them but the hevi 3-2-6s out of that gun/choke combo throws a blistering pattern. 246 hits in a 10" circle at forty yards, nice even pattern with no holes or strings. I have the mentality of "if it ain't broke don't fix it", so I've never put any 7s on paper. There's more than one dead gobbler that can attest to the killing ability of that combo. However if the 6s put up those kind of numbers I would imagine the 7s would do even better. I just prefer the extra penetration that comes with the slightly larger pellet.

WOW!!  If I had a gun that would throw 246 in a 10 with 3-2-6's I'd be done. I would buy cases of that shell and never feed another round through it for the rest of my life. Consider yourself lucky.  Congrats on an incredible patterning gun.

I run a SBEII with a IC .665...I was feeding it with HV-13 #6 at 2 1/2oz...put up very impressive numbers on paper...well over 225 at 40, even and consistent. Also with many fallen gobblers to confirm.  Last year ran the same except with HV #7 at 2 1/2oz...never got a chance to shoot paper but the results were still the same..7 dead birds and a miss at 10 steps...just to tight and I was excited, pumped ar what ever other excuse I can come up with!!   

So this year I am putting together a dedicated scatter gun just for gobblers...went with the Stoeger M3500 in 24".  Going to run a few different chokes to "find the majic"  I am particullary interested in the HV choke at .656..have it in hand and am waiting on the gun to arrive.  I've heard and read nothing but good things about this combo so I am pumped to see what she will throw...

I don't know about the rest of you but I really enjoy tinkering around with shells and chokes..not to throw my chest out but for the confidence in the field...plus it's a lot of fun and you can't beat the psychological advantage of knowing your limitations and boosting your confidence...

As far as the #7's...don't be fooled...they are leathal rounds.  Had multiple birds last year that were 30 yrd shots and had pass through pellets...

Ghillie be sure to let me know how the HV choke does out of your 3500. I just got one last week and would be interested as to what it does. I am gonna shoot mine a bit more this weekend with the sumtoy and i just got a PG in the mail to try as well.

I'm shooting a Rem 1187 with a 20in barrel that has been worked by Roberts Brothers Gun Works.....Forcing cone lengthened, barrel polished, and ported. I'm shooting a HV Turkey Choke with HV #7 3 in and getting around 247 in 10in circle at 40, not to bad for a 20in barrel.

Out of my Benelli Nova with a Jellyhead .655 Hevi-13 3.5-2.25-7s put 275 in a 10" circle at 40 yards with a dirty barrel and 298 in a 10" circle at 40 yards with a clean barrel.  I shot it once at 50 yards with a dirty barrel and got low 140s in a 10" circle I believe.

I shoot a BGH and a SX2; same barrel as your BPS.

I have found that the 7s pattern very well with both the Jellyhead and Hevi Turkey Chokes.

The chokes that I see do the best with those shells in those guns are the SSX and the Hevi-13 turkey chokes. The SSX has an e.d. of .643 and the Hevi-13 choke has an e.d. of .655. They have very different internal geometry but both work exceptionally well.
