wood type help

the wood was gave to me as birch or ash but i think it is to heavy for ash....it don't look like birch that i've seen but i could be wrong....its the pot on the left...the pot on the right is pecan...i hope to find out what type of wood this is so i can get some cause the pot i made out of it will scream....anyone know what type of wood this is       [IMG]

Looks like Hickory, just a guess.

its not hackberry or hickory...i've used those before....the guy that gave me this wood said they use it for step treads on custom built stair cases....

looks like ash, but the best way to identify it is to go to your friend and ask to look at the tree or whats left of it to see the bark.
