Glueing acrylic and wood

I glued pieces of acrylic and wood together using ca and it didn't hold. What do most of you use to glue different objects such as acrylic and wood? I am trying to make a couple combination calls.
Thanks for your time and consideration.

Bill,
I have used tightbond III in making some acrylic-wood combo pens with no problems at all. Hope this helps

I made a few acrylic tipped wood strikers and used 5 minute epoxy, but also joined them with a 1/16" brass rod between them.
