An old member Mudpuppi. I own Trumpets by all of these fine call makers. I thought I would honor them with a little story for each of their calls. Im going to kill a bird with each one, take a picture, and then frame it with the poem that goes with it. Still working on one for my mero trumpet.

For Pappy

A stare down, oh goodness, what to do
Ive been caught slacking by a love sick gobbler running in, ready to screw
His head fiery red, his tail fanned fully out
Seduced by a Bois D Rose trumpet, run with such clout
Or perhaps it was the call makers mastery, Mr. Jack Lewis
Better known as Pappy to us
This poor great bird has no clue he's been foiled
About to have his breast quartered and fried in peanut oil.
but I shouldnt get to cocky and full of zest
because I just missed big time
As the gun stock got hung up in the shirt pocket on my chest.

For Gitzit

There once was a southern turkey hunter
whom went through a turkey spell from hell.
It was tough turkey hunting,as many other turkey hunters know so well
It is an agonizing time for our man,the turkeys wont gobble, not even to an owl hoot
Until this hunter pulled out his magical turkey killing flute
It was born in a state with the name shortened down to just Cali,
The raw materials came from a small shop just down an alley
Not really a place from where you think turkey killers abound.
But he raised it to his lips anyway
and out of this beautiful instrument came the greatest turkey sound.
Our man put forth some calling effort, his very best
a little southern turkey twang, mixed in with a little of the west.
A big ol southern gobble arose from his swamp
And all that could be heard just afterward, was his 12ga's roaring TTTTTTThaaaawwwwwuuuuummmpppp.
Before this season, all the trumpet haters were unmercifully teasing and laughing at him
but on this day, he had the last laugh,
with a Gitzit 69 trumpet seduced turkey dripping blood from its busted up chin

For Mudpuppi

I was off on my morning hunt, and almost forgot my trumpet by Mudpuppi.
I remembered it as I turned the key to the door.
It was made of Bubinga, very robust and heavy, like the war hammer of Thor.
Today its my weapon against the gobblers of South Carolina
A state of green swamps, good bbq, and southern women that cant get much finer.
As a Georgia boy, I feel a little guilty saying that, because this call is made here, she's a beauty, a pure Peach.
On this fine spring day she is getting worked, while others frolick on the beach.
Its all good though, because of the end result.
A swarm of pellets sending a swamp gobbler into a backwards somersault.
I am forgiven, despite my fondness of another state
She has agreed to be my partner on yet another date.

Couldnt leave Brian out.

Wow, I cant help but smile at my trumpet by Brian Mero
She is Blackwood, has great curves, long and narrow
Her lines flow, she fits in your hand quite nicely.
But she puts out a yelp that glazes gobblers eyes over and makes them come in fiesty
When she starts to sing, her voice is soft and sweet but turns into a raspy siren.
It must be the extra touch from the call maker, Brian.
Today she has been the demise of yet another tom
A love sick fool thinking he was about to get him some
Its a long walk back to the truck with this big bird in my vest
But it gives me plenty of time to ponder on how duping turkeys with trumpets is the best.

My mudpuppi Olive wood

This call is made from wood from the land of Jesus
I had no idea her song would so please us
She has no frills or fancies, just plain jane
But she will outwit a gobbler at his own game
She came to me from the call maker Craig
It was a gift, I gave him nothing, a big goose egg
I put her to my lips and man oh man she felt quite right
I knew then, we would share time at the base of a swamp oak in the morning night.
I envisioned soft tree yelps coming out of her bell
Answered by the swamp monarch with a gobble from hell.
Ill get down on my gun, releasing one more sweet note
For you see, at the squeeze of my trigger
He'll be taking a ride on my turkey tote.

There's a turkey hunting fanatic, most of you may know.
His username is Savduck, but he goes by Richard or Del, or Crow

If turkeys could talk they would know of him too,
He's called in several hundred, and blew the face off a few.

If practice makes perfect than he's on his way,
I'm sure I'll run into him, in Nashville one day.

Hellbent on adding to his large collection,
He ordered a call from me....summer 2011.

Getting the bug and ordering many more,
All from guys on here....never from a store.

All winter to practice and get really good,
these turkeys have no idea, but they should.

From trumpets to tubes to friction and box,
he's all set to go, don't forget the white socks.

We all appreciate the enthusiasm and zeal,
This upcoming spring...should turn out ideal.

Savduck thanks for all the compliments and kind words.  I don't think I know of anyone more psycho for turkey than you are.  If you're looking for words that rhyme with Mero, try bone marrow, or sparrow, or claro.

That's all I got folks, I used to write a lot of limericks years ago, but I can't find them, and they are too dirty for this site anyway.

How about when I pull the trigger on a gobbler called in by my Mero.....it will splatter brain matter and bone marrow

Works for me Savduck.  Looking forward to seeing some of your turkey hunting videos this spring.

pappy

There's not a day that goes by that I don't have a new caller in my mind, and it is friends like Savduck that buy them and whose support is so kind.
But it is the story of the hunt, that brings the caller to life, about using the call and causing those Toms so much strife.
Then after the season it is on the shelf that they must go, with one last cleaning, and another story in tow.
So let me say this, it is not the cash that impresses the call maker to make calls, it is the love of the sport and the sharing of the heritage to one and to all.
Thank you my friends for such a successful year, and I pray for each of you 2012 full of good cheer....pappy

I cant leave Joe out. i dont own one of his, YET.

Here ya go joe.

There is this callmaker, he has the trumpet bug as bad as me
His name is Joe, and he lives a few hours up the road from the OC
He is new to this trumpet game
And figuring out what is what
Ive heard his trumpets online, and their pure Rio turkey sluts
I feel a little sorry for the birds on those oak covered hills
His trumpets will be deadly even with all the frills
And sorry for them you should be too
Because his magnum load is gonna hit them so hard
That they sling some Rio doo doo.

Now that is poetry at it's best. If I can get Pappy's call and Joe's call along with the trumpet (cane) from Ken to sound right the makers will know.

If you kill all the gobblers
while using your Mero.
Pray for the hen's
Who are so full of sorrow.
