Knob Creek,West Virginia turkey hunting

My dads friend has land in Knob Creek,and was wondering if anyone has experiance hunting near the area. And also for non res hunters in national forest lands out there. It was a bit confusing on the DNR website. Thanks in advance guys.

Are you referring to knob creek in the barboursville-Huntington area?  If so the turkey hunting is off the hook in that area of the county. Or are talking about spruce knob?

I've worked all over WV, back when I was a lineman.

Seemed like anytime we went west from Charleston on I64, or north on 79, we saw turkeys everywhere.  Never saw that many turkeys in my life, they were literally everywhere we looked.

The DNR website is confusing as to what you actually have to purchase, license wise.  I think it is about $150 to be able to hunt turkey, anywhere in WV.  Close anyway!

Its between New Martinsville and the town Hundred on hwy 7. And 30 or so miles east from New Martinsville. I would think its prime turkey country since I looked at it on google earth.

That's not where I was thinking but I called a friend of mine who hunts some private land in that general area and he said its polluted with turkeys. Hope this helps.

I would love to make it out there this year but I dont think I will ray.I might be looking at getting out there in 2013. But we'll see if maybe I can sneak a trip in this year if the funds are right

Ive done some fine turkey hunting in West Virginia. You should do fine finding birds......your issue is gonna be those mountains if you arent used to it.

They wore this southern flatlander out. Well worth the effort though.

Well Im sure I'll be find since I've been chasing chukar out here in the high desert at above 7,000 feet down to 4,000 feet the llast few days. I will say if there is no shell rock,granite thats not falling apart,dusty lime stone or razor sharp lava rock I'll feel like Im taking a nice stroll through the park lol. Can you tell that chukar season has been beating me up lol considering I've only seen one and didnt catch up to it.Oh well like they say "Chukar hunting is fun the first time,but the second is for revenge".
