Need suggestions for a scope for a 22

I have a 22 rifle that I use to squirrel hunt with and was wonder if a red dot scope would work for this type of hunting.  If not, what would you recommend?

I've never used a red dot for squirrel hunting. IMO a 3x9x40 mm scope is perfect for squirrels.
