So, what calls does everyone carry to the turkey woods with them?

For me...

Mouth calls:  Woodhaven Red Wasp & Classic V-3, Tom Teasers Redneck Hen, custom calls made by team member Doublebeard
Friction calls:  Supreme Pure Death Pinnacle, Woodhaven Classic Cherry Crystal, Halloran Crystal Mistress
Strikers: Woodhaven Strike 3 birch, purpleheart, african blackwood and a variety of dymondwood laminates
Locator: Primos Old Crow
"I'm not from New Yawk.  I'm a REDNECK from Western New York!!!"
"It's not a passion. It's an OBSESSION."

I have quite a few different types of calls, but diaphragms are always my go to.  My favorite for years has been the HS Strut Split VIII.  It very easy to run for me and I can get the sounds I want out of it.  It has just a little bit of rasp.  I'm not a big fan of the calls that have a ton of rasp.  I have tried many brands and some custom made calls, but I always go back to that one.

For mouth calls I like the Primos Latex True Double (discontinued), and the Flextone Freak Nasty. I have found that I can call up birds using the bargain calls almost as well as the high priced ones. I start out the season with a pocket full of them and spit them out in the woods the first time they won't call right. I usually end up with only one or two calls at the end of the season.

I use Primos Power Crystal and Pittman aluminum pot calls.

I have around 8 different strikers, but I usually go for a purple heart or a regular hickory.

For box calls, I have a Neil Cost Boat Paddle that goes to the woods occasionally and a Primos Heart Breaker.

I also carry a Turpin yelper, a hen wingbone yelper and a cowhorn yelper.

I have a Primos Power Crow call and owl-hoot with my natural voice.

Last year after I had shot my second bird in MS, as a challenge to myself, I took every turkey call out of my vest and spent the remainder of the season only using my natural voice. I didn't call one in, but if the opportunity presents itself, I will do it again.

Mouth calls : Hook's hunter's pack, Knight & Hale, H.S, Primos, and some odd and end ones
Fiction calls: Mad Smokin' Glass, Mad Crystal, and a glass call from eemer here on OG
Box calls: Ben Lee twin hen, Quaker Boy Hurricane, and a little scratch box

Mouth calls are my go to calls, but I'll throw one of the others in the mix as well.

CB on the run

The last couple years I have been XTKee Kee & Primos cuttin hen for mouth calls.  I started with Quaker Boy calls as their headquaters is close.  I loved the Old Boss Hen and killed quite a few birds with it then the tone changed and it seemed that the quality went down.  I switched to the HS Strut 2.5 and basically the same happened.
I had a Lynch World Champ Box which a sat on and cracked the lid about a dozen years ago.  It started many birds.  I bought another Lynch but it's not the same.  I have several box calls but none match that 1st.
I use a Knight & Hale pot & bought a custom pot at the Eastern Sportman's show last year in Harrisburg but don't remember the name.  I have about 15 mixed strikers but one of the regulars is a Kee Kee striker from Primos.
I have been practicing with a wingbone that I made over 15 years old.  I think it just might make it to the woods this year.

I carry a three reed with a combo cut for most of my calling but I will always have a high pitch friction call. My preference is a Crystal call. I have a slate call for a early morning roast call. And a pileated woodpecker call for a locator call. Works for me  :fud: Youth Weekend 2008

3" 870 Shell Shucker

Lynch's Foolproof Box Call
Primo's Box Cutter Box Call
"Several" Peg and Pot style calls

I'll normally carry 1 Box Call and 2 Pot Style Calls.
I have the hardest time deciding which calls to take. ???

I always have a mouth call and my OG box call. I picked up a tube call and a mini-trumpet this year and can't wait to try them out this spring.
