Now LSU has big problems, 4 of there top players in a bar fight , out after curfew. These coaches better get a hold of these players in a hurry . So many schools its just crazy.

Only thugs get to play college football now days. Educated, well behaved atheletes arent fast enough or big enough to play at that level anymore.

That statement is completely untrue.

We only hear about the bad things.  Nobody ever talks about the guys that flourish in the community or have high GPA's and graduate with honors.  Sure, some "thugs" play but there are more good guys, than bad.

Im not talking about eveyone.

I lived in the heart of the SEC. I played football and baseball with quite a few guys that went to college to play ball and some that even went pro. Yep, I have friends that made the majors and the NFL. None of these guys were brain surgeons, most of them barely made it out of highschool, and quite a few got in some trouble before they ever went to college, but were let off because they were the home town hero. When they got in college...same story, great atheletes.....barely keeping a "C" average as a Home EC major. The bottom line is colleges dont care....they want the athelete that brings them wins, and they think could go to the next level because they bring money back to the program. Unfortunately, the trend is to get bigger and faster.....where I come from it isnt the majority of  guys who concentrate on their grades and staying model citizens that fit this bill. It seems to me at that level more and more thugs are filling scholarship spots.

Now on the other side, there are those who do well. Ryan Sprague,a starting tight end for the Florida State Seminoles. Ryan is my Aunt's, by marriage, little brother. He was the starter when they won their last national championship. He kept up his grades, handled himself with honor and stayed out of trouble. He got drafted by the Steelers and made it to the last preseason game. After he was cut, he decided he had other callings. He now has a book about his time as a walk on to starter for a national champion team...good stuff.

... that makes much more sense.  I agree with the majority of what you say there.

Preacher

I have been around football and other ball players a good deal,   they are a lot like turkey hunters,   some good and some selfish immature, entitlement syndrome affected,  idiots.     Many have been treated like the 2and coming just because of a short lived talent that they don't deserve.   Then on the other handy you got a kid that just loves to play and loves his teammates.   He is willing to run up a brick wall for his coaches.     I cant help to pull for that kid.   So whats the problem:    GREED,  not money, but GREED.   Greed turns regular country boys into a kid that hags out at a bar called "Shadys"   after curfew.     Because they think that they are owed all whims and selfish desires be fulfilled.   And unless arrest are made or some form of media coverage happens,  most folks in charge, ( coaches, alumni and the like) turn a blind eye to it.

I hope they get it straighten- out.

Every program, especially major programs go through this stuff. But, I don't expect to see Les Miles do much about it. He is more about winning than he is running a clean program, ala Bobby Bowden. Hopefully Miles will prove me wrong, but with his team's high ranking, and Bama on the horizon, I think he will prove me right.
