Change in Wyoming Hunt Area 1 Regulation

Wyoming has changed the regulations for Hunt Area 1 which includes that portion of the Black Hills NF that are in WY. Only one gobbler can be taken in Hunt Area 1 in the spring of 2012. This past spring two gobblers could taken - one on a general license and one on a Type 3 license. Next spring the Type 3 license will not be available.

Wow and I thought I was going to be able to hunt for two....
But I will be happy to kill one...

If I were to kill a bird on the first morning that would leave me stuck in Wyoming for another 5 days...do I have any other options to maybe go after a second bird...how far I wonder are the other hunt areas...
How far would I have to drive to get to South Dakota...
I wish it was 2 birds....

Montana and South Dakota are very close and you would be able to continue hunting. It's less than 60 miles to either state from Colony, WY.

 Wyoming has some  beautiful land up close to and in the Black Hills  , if it wasn't for the freezing winters I would have packed up and moved there for good

Opportunities are not very limited in that area of the world luckily. What a beautiful place.

Its only 10 or so to Mt and less thasn 20 to SD from where you will be.

Cool...Im not sure it could happen but you never know...get a bird the first day and then what...for sure I need a back up plan...

Apparently someone did but it wasn't me! Seriously I'm glad they changed it back because prior to this spring 3 out of the last 5 hatches had been poor. I hope they had a decent hatch this spring. Too much hunting pressure/harvest was affecting the overall health of the turkey population in that area IMO.

There was a huge winter kill this year in the areas I hunt around Hulett.

I've never heard as little gobbling as I heard out there this spring and my actual sightings of birds were down by well over 50%.

Areas where turkeys were once plentiful are now sparsely populated.

Granted, the hunting wasn't horrible and there are still plenty of birds, but it isn't anywhere near what it used to be in that area, IMHO.
