Killer Winds

Besides a low rate of gobbles heard this season, the wind has been killer in the areas I hunt.

Fridays are the only days I can get out of work and not be piled up from emails and it seems like every Friday has been windy.

I've tried finding slopes and ravines where I think they may go to stay out of the wind and called down and nothing.

Not even hearing hens this year, I've hunted 7 days throughout the season and I've heard 2 maybe 3 hens.

No gobbles + wind = some very long and unproductive hunting days

I don't necessarily look for places to get out of the wind, I go to places I've seen the most turkeys and setup using calls with a high pitch front, in hopes to cut the wind and get a response. But this is what I do in my area. I do understand different states and terrains can cause people to hunt in different ways.

I know you feel 7 days is a lot, but really it's not, just keep going and hopefully you will get your gobbler.

But I do agree with you I hate the wind the most, I rather have rain. But as we will agree it's nice to have those better weather days ...

Oh I don't think 7 days is a lot. It barely scratches the itch.

I would defiantly double my days hunting or more if life (wife, toddler, work, etc.) would allow me to.

Unfortunately, tomorrow is my last shot for the season, If I end up getting to go, since the season ends this Sunday.

Rain is better (but wetter) for me too.

I live and hunt by empirical evidence.

I went north to extend my season. Today was big wind and rain. Not to mention highs in the 40's. Day 1, zero gobbles. The way I see it, can't get worse from here.

Just keep on getting at it. As you know, it only takes seconds for it to happen out of the blue

Try living at 3000' elevation. Wind has almost been a constant all season up here.
It's been a bad spring weather wise. All we can do is play the cards we are dealt.

Where I'm at the season was mostly rainy haha. Just rain, rain and rain... Every weekend it was raining. But from my perspective, turkeys were not affected at all from it...

Spring Creek Calls

A good long box is invaluable on a windy day. Turkeys are being turkeys even on windy days. You may not be able to hear them but if you're hunting good ground they won't be far away.
