Wood vs. acrylic

Can someone explain to me the difference in sound between the types of wood and also if the trumpet is made of acrylic/delrin? Thanks in advance.

I'm wanting to buy a trumpet and am considering the kt team mark prudhomme trumpet or going with a call maker that offers them made of wood.

For trumpets, I don't think there is much sound difference between woods. With plastics, maybe a little, but it's de minimis imo. Of course others will disagree.

Concern yourself more over the inside than the outside.
A quality paddle caller will most run itself.  It just needs someone to carry it around the woods. Yoder409

I have an acrylic and an Osage from the same maker.  The all acrylic trumpet definitely has more pop with a higher pitch. It's not totally different in how it plays, but If say it's more 'lively' if you will.  I enjoy playing both of them.

An acrylic trumpet, is lit as a feather ... Just don't drop it, it's very easy to break.. In both trumpets and pot calls I do feel you get a louder / pitch - sound / pop

I agree the builder of either makes a difference with the internals ...  IMO

To add to this, obviously acrylic is weatherproof, so you all take wooden trumpets in rainy weather?. Will it negatively affect them?.

I don't know about affecting them, but it sure does affect me .. Most of the time if it's raining I will take my Delrin 45 and 45 classic from Ralph Permar

Yup, I do have one acrylic for just that purpose 👍

Renaissance Wax protects wood trumpets.

Here are 4 very similar in design Lumma trumpets, three with different woods and  ivory and buffalo MPs. Green speckled acrylic is on the right.  The three on the left sound pretty dead nuts identical. The acrylic does have a slight bit more pop or hollowness to its sound but is very similar to the wooden ones overall. So Steve's internals and design is consistent and so is his sound.

If I were to put the renaissance wax on my wood trumpet it would be ok to take out in rainy conditions without worry?.

My thoughts on this subject.....the wax may help protect the outside, but the inside of the barrel would still be subject to the moisture. With that being said, I have messed around with wetting the inside of trumpets to see if they were changed after wetting/drying cycles and really haven't noticed any "problems". I do however use CA for the exterior finish, as well as a CA soak coat for the interior as well. I do a final cleaning of the internals, but I am sure the CA remains just under the surface......so maybe this process skews the test I have run on wetting/drying cycles? I have a Genuine Lignum Vitae trumpet I use in the rain, that thing has so much oil in it I didn't even put finish on it....It still runs fine after getting wet.
