I killed this bird last week with a Ricky Padgett African Blackwood trumpet. I had to work on opening weekend, but saw this bird on security camera on Sunday evening.
Tuesday morning, when I got off work, I went down and set up across from the field in the background. The bird was roosted across the corner of the lake and after flydown, I coaxed him across the dam and watched his strut and could hear him spitting and drumming as he came across. About 2/3rds of the way across, he cut across the spillway and straight into my lap. Crossbow bird.
Interestingly, I saw a few hens and they all left right after flydown and appeared to be going to nest, which would be early for here. Either way, he was very lonely and was dead at 755 that morning.
