Rob Roberts Camo Dip

Anyone ever see chipping like this on their new camo dip? It started chipping immediately after getting it back from dip. I sent it right back to be re-dipped but they just sloppily painted over the chips. After getting it back it chipped again on the very first shot. The company that dipped it explained that its very common and challenged me to go to any gun store and find any dipped gun that doesnt have "touched up" chips. This seems crazy to me. Ive had a half dozen guns dipped in the last 15 years and ive never experienced this.

Dipping is not durable at all. It looks better but cerakote is the way to go. Even then cerakote isn't perfect either

I agree 100%. However, I have a half dozen dipped turkey guns that have never chipped. They have normal wear from use and I get them re-dipped every 3 or 4 years as needed. This particular gun is a brand new gun that was dipped and the first time I shot it the dipping flaked off just from shooting it. I sent it back for repairs and the same thing happened again the very first shot after getting it back from repairs. The company told me this is normal and all dipped guns do it...

Be good to know who did the dip so people will know to stay away.

Jerry Ethridge at Ethridge Hydro graphics has done probably 6 for me and another 6 for buddies of mine, and none of us have ever had the issue you mentioned.

I have also used "Black Dove Customs" for cerakote with no issues.

Just read the title.  I know of another instance of issues with them and I personally have had an issue with them.  Not camo dip related but definitely will not use them again.

I've always been turned off by rob roberts dip jobs. I've heard the same thing. My gun literally fell out of the truck the other day and hit concrete with just a scratch on the barrel. This is an ethridge dip. It surprised me that it had little damage.

Had TarJac in New York do a couple dips for me and been very pleased. Reasonable price and turnaround, great customer service.

That's a shame that their response is "Check other dipped guns", you'll find chips? They are dead wrong, I have original Remington 870's with the Old School camo with absolutely no chips. These guns are from the 90's, shot several times, they look perfect. They should concentrate more on a solution than an excuse. Hopefully the problem will stop for you...

I think it is all in the surface prep. That is what people who duped my guns in the past have always mentioned.

Had TarJac in New York do a couple dips for me and been very pleased. Reasonable price and turnaround, great customer service.

Tarjac has done several dip/cerkote jobs for me over the last 10 years or so. They are good people and just a couple hours up to road from me. Their work and customer service is fantastic. The only reason I had RR do the dip for me is because it was already in their shop for other work. This is the last time I will have any kind of work done by RR.

I have seen plenty of dipped guns wear, but I have never seen a chip like this. He was definitely more concerned with not being wrong than he was with finding a solution. When I tried to explain why I felt the original dip was done incorrectly, he accused me of "lecturing" him and then proceeded to list off all of the big important brands that they do work work for. The whole experience has been strange and a big turn off.

Being im-bed with Benelli seems like they are less concerned with the average guy.  At least that was the way they made me feel.  They will never do any work for me again!
