Basic How To.
1. Clean shotgun of all oils and dirt. Paint won't dry well if there is residue. Some folks used rubbing alcohol to clean it, I just use a clean rag.
2.Tape off what you don't want painted. Bolt, sights, trigger, safety, rails. Painters tape is my go to.
3. Paint a base coat of whatever color you want. I like tan. Let that side dry then flip and repeat. Temperature affects drying speed. Colder temps slow drying speed a lot, and can lead to tackiness. At 60 degrees it takes about an hour to dry per side with the amount of paint I use.
4. Take a second color in my case brown, then do angled streaks down the gun. Let dry and repeat. Stripes are good for breaking up the overall shape of the gun.
5. Take whatever medium you want for adding texture (this example used fish netting, but any branches, leaves, grass can work). Put the medium over the gun, and do quick streaks with paint over it. This creates a light pattern without globing up on the prior layers. I used green followed by brown. This will dry faster than the base and stripe layers.
6. Have fun with it and don't worry about smudges, scratches, etc. Wear makes patterns look better and more natural.
