I'll be headed to or in the woods for my first hunt of the year...gonna be a balmy 38 degrees at daylight. I know there's a longbeard where I'm going..let's see if he wants to play.

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.

Right on. I sure hope you played the game with him this morning!

Update...

Wife didn't feel good this morning so I didn't get to my spot until noon. Turkeys were about 400 yards on the opposite end of the gas line. Made my way there and got set up..Big gobbler has 5-6 hens. Called up one of the jakes in the group right off the bat.

A second gobbler came in but he was about 50 yards to my left and didn't want anything to do with the boss bird and fed off.

I'm currently in a waiting match as big bird is is about 75 yards on the other side of some thick stuff strutting his feathers off and won't budge.

Hope y'all can read this as I don't have my reading glasses on

I don't even think you had one typo. If you did, I'm not going back to read it again and find it. Looking forward to the next update!

Well I guess I will have to accept defeat..for today. I first laid eyes on him at noon and it's now 6 p.m.

He's got 17 hens with him..can't get him to leave them and I can't get around him. He stayed in a 50 yard radius 60 yards from me for over 2 hours just strutting..and all I could do was watch.

I can't go again until Thursday so I may see if my 76 year old dad wants to try him in the morning. I've got intel on another bird in a different area so if he scores I still have options.

It's been an awesome first day even if I didn't pull the trigger!

Good stuff! Watching a bird strut for 2 hours out a range is a damn good day in the woods. Hope you get your dad on one. Good luck!

You got the whole show and still get to hunt. Can't be any better really ;)

GobbleNut

First of all, kudos to you for not taking a "golden BB" shot at him at sixty yards.  Not sure how many hunters around anymore with that kind of discipline.  :icon_thumright:

Secondly, as others have pointed out, you really got the "whole ball of wax" anyhow with that hunt. Those situations can be frustrating, for sure, but there is always another day and another gobbler...that is, until there isn't...   ;D  :angel9:

I definitely can't complain..I had eyes on birds pretty much the whole 6 hours I was out there.

The best part is...the game continues...
