What are the advantages of a one side over a standard short box? Or is it more of a personal preference thing?

I mainly only play one rail anyway and they seem to be a touch clearer on the front end.

One advantage I found is because the lid rests firmly against the high side, when you carry it with rubber bands or whatever wrapped around it, it's less likely to squeak. Which is good for kids or anyone carrying a call in the woods.  Also new callers might find consistency in one rail making it easier to run and master.

"Why a one-sider ?" is for the same reason as any other box that goes hunting with me.

SOUND

Other than authenticity in sound, there's little other reason I carry a call around the woods.  I don't discriminate based on the number of rails.

The first box call I bought, some 40-ish years ago, was a one-sider.  But, sentimentality be darned.  It's ALL about the sound.

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.

Most all call builders tune both rails now for that reason I prefer regular box 2 rails... But I have used both and regardless sound is what I am chasing. A good tune box on both rails will give more hens in the box.. IMO

So it just depends on what you like and enjoy playing ...
