What do you guys think about these video guys filming turkey hunts on YouTube?

High plains drifter

I've been turkey hunting for 30 years, mostly Montana and South Dakota. Glad to have joined this forum, lots of interesting tips and information that has helped me in the past. Thank you. Good luck to all this coming season.

It's a two-edged sword as far as I am concerned. I enjoy some of the channels...some, not so much. I also realize that in our already-crowded hunting world, the added exposure to turkey hunting that has been piled onto the hunting-product company productions that started back in the 1970's hasn't helped matters. ...And that is not to mention the ongoing onslaught caused by the never-ending attempts by those companies and the NWTF, et al. to lure more and more folks that would otherwise never get into turkey hunting.

It seems the YouTubers are the current tip-of-the-iceberg as to who to blame...but the problem started long before YouTube came along. No doubt, though, that the YouTube craze has resulted in us reaching the saturation point a bit quicker than we would have otherwise...but it was eventually going to happen one way or the other, as it has with just about every other game species.

The YouTube problem could have been headed off early-on if the attraction of the "monetization" part of it had not been included in the mix. Of course, the same could be said with the hunting-product companies and their videos...as well as the NWTF obsession with trying to lure dollars out of folks that would likely have never thought twice about turkeys or turkey hunting. Add 'em all up...and here is where we are...  ::)

*Some videographers are all about killing a bird ignoring what most on the this forum would consider ethical.
*Some videographers seem to kill birds despite themselves, but have a good time.
*Some videographers do a decent job of showing an ethical experience as proficient hunters.
*Then there are videographers (such as Scot Ellis and Dale Outdoors) that do a good job showing calling techniques and hunting strategies outside of the field.

Vidoegrpahers such as The Hunting Public do a good job of showing an entertaining hunting experience with some hunting strategy mixed in...  Of course they are also being heavily criticized for spot burning and increasing hunting pressure.  I understand that criticism, as I would NOT want to see them do a video in the area that I hunt.

On a side note, I would blame apps such as OnX for spot burning, more than I would Youtube videos, but each probably plays some part in increased hunting pressure and decreased access to areas with reasonably low hunting pressure.
Did I do that?

Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.

.  People are going to see these videos on YouTube of these average people just everyday people, going turkey hunting, and then posting a video of their hunt, and they will be thinking, okay. Okay I can do this, and that's just putting a lot of people into the Turkey woods in my opinion.

. I agree, there is this group of guys from Missouri, the come out to Montana and film every year, maybe they're in South Dakota as well. Maybe even in Wyoming, maybe Nebraska a little bit but they they are good hunters one guy with long hair that wears kind of a strange cap and shoots a little 20 gauge 870, he's a good Hunter and he uses technology to to hunt and and scout and, it's people like this that are hotspotting and and putting a lot of people out into Montana and South Dakota. These guys have about 10 guys, and they just saturate an area, it's not a good thing in my opinion
