If you truly feel like turkey hunting (especially on public land) is in serious trouble, then I challenge YOU to not make a single post on ANY of your social media platforms about killing a public land turkey during the 2025 season. If the cause is greater than you, then this shouldn't be a problem. Right?

nyturkeyduster

It's never been too hard for me. It's these guys on Youtube that just have to tell you what state they're in, thus brining more pressure to their public areas.

captpete

Won't be much of problem for me. OG and Crossbow Nation are basically the only social media platforms I'm on. Also I'm fortunate enough to mostly hunt private property.

Youtube is the most obvious target but Facebook, Instagram, and others (including forums) should shoulder plenty of the blame as well.

I've never had an account for FB, IG, Twitter, Snapchat, etc... so no issue there for me at all.

jb1069

No issue for me. I think its time to put a halt to all the (new customer) hunter recruitment that gets pushed by all the youtubers and manufacturers.

Another forum has a "kill thread". We had already decided not to post on it even private land kills.

The Spring Season is almost HERE ...  :fud:

Like others have said, I don't share everything with everyone on Social media / forums, I just share it with a few friends on OG ..

LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS

I don't use any social media other than the OG forum. And typically don't post a kill anyway. When I kill a turkey, typically no one knows about it unless it's my wife and kids, or a friend off here.

I have learned first hand how loose lips sink ships in duck hunting, and after numerous YouTube videos of people turkey hunting in areas that I've frequented for years, unless you have no ethical code and barge in on someone, you can't hunt them now for the OOS trucks at the gates.

That pretty much sums up how I feel about it.

I enjoy hearing the hu ting stories and seeing the photos of the successful hunters.
Do it without naming any location, heck, leave the state out of it makes you feel better, but share your success pics.  It's part of why we all come here.
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

I understand the sentiment...

But, we are all on this particular forum to share our enthusiasm, knowledge and experiences with each other.

I have only posted a handful of birds I have killed on the forums, and those posts have been something I found to be exciting or unusual (such as my daughter harvesting her first bird)...  I have never posted a public killed bird...
But...  I do look forward to seeing the posts of success, and the smiles that go with them.

I never condone posting any specifics about location, but I generally do not frown on posts from members sharing with us their success in the field.  Posts need to be as vague as possible about location, and should NOT have any landmarks that could be identified....

As far as technology and public land, onX and similar apps have increased hunting pressure to more spots than anything (includin social media)...  Previously, it took some work to find spots to hunt.  Now there is an ap that tells you about every area there is, without ever leaving the house...
Did I do that?

Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.

I have never and will never post on YouTube, Facebook, etc. because I just see no need.  I WILL post on OG because I enjoy seeing other's kills as well.  I don't always, but if there is a fun story behind like 2 years ago, I like to post about it.  Mostly, on here, I post about my failures because, with true turkey hunters, sharing our misery is actually more fun.

I do post on YouTube some duck/goose hunts as well as some quail hunts, but those are private and shared with the people that were there with me.

I don't post anything on social media any more about my turkey travels except here on OG (which I've been blasted at for which is ridiculous) And at that, I just list the states I'm going to. And I will again. As I have stated and will continue to say, if I mention a state and you want to try to find out where I am. Good luck. Most states are huge with a lot of public. I don't mention WMA's or National Forest names. Not even to my friends. Nor would I here. But mentioning a state where I'm going, I don't see an issue with that. I could be on private or public. You won't know. But if you run in into me, introduce yourself, maybe we will hunt together. Maybe not. Depends on my mood that day.

Meleagris gallopavo

I primarily use social media to stalk turkey call makers and throw money away in waffles.  I posted a few turkey kills years ago when I first started turkey hunting.  Now I don't post anything on social media.  I may post some stuff on this forum, mostly calls.
