Things is about to heat up team!  Time for some introductions and updates from everybody again...especially for the benefit of our new team members.

I'm your captain,,,yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (Reference: Grand Funk Railroad circa 1970 or thereabouts for you young'uns  ;D ) ...look it up on YouTube if you are confused   :D

Jim's the name, turkey educatin' is my game. (and kill one every once in a while)
I've been educatin' 'em since the 1960's...so a guy might deduce my approximate age by doing a bit of mathamagmatics. Suffice it to say that I have been turkey huntin' probably a decade or two longer than some of you have been alive.

It appears that I might make it to the season again this year...and assuming I do, I will try not to sink our boat as best I can. Waves might get a bit choppy...we'll see...  ;D

I live in southern New Mexico and primarily hunt low-scoring Merriam's turkeys in the mountains around these parts. I'm usually good for a gobbler or three each spring in that I am retired and can hunt as much as I want to, although I don't push it like I did a few years back. This spring, I will most likely hunt three states out here in the west. If I'm "feelin' it", I might go for more.

Enough for now. Everybody check in and talk about yourselves a bit so we all know what kind of misfits we are dealing with.  :toothy12:  :angel9:

Hello team. I am another old Goat that started chasing these birds in 1971. I have determined they are vile tools of the devil created to make us do and say things contrary to any man's moral religion. I live in Southern Ohio and have hunted 9 states and done one grand slam. I typically hunt Ohio and Kentucky with a third state thrown in some years. We have nice fat Eastern here that gobblenuts mountain birds only wish they could grow to. Still I manage to kill a smaller bird some years. I shoot what comes to the call (I typically pass jakes, but not always).

I grew up on a farm and I hunt almost exclusively private land. I am retired from a long career in Natural Resources as a Fish Hatchery Manager. In my retirement I garden, I turkey hunt, I fish, I am active in ministry (I chair a ministry to incarcerated juvenile boys), I have been married 44 years and simply answer the boss with a, "Yes my queen". I hope to put a couple long beards in the dirt this spring. Oh yeah, I am an avid fall hunter too.

Happy

I am the good-looking guy. Don't count on me for anything more than that and running my mouth. Been hunting turkeys for over 20 years and still at it as hard as ever. This year might be my year, and I finally catch one. Been eyeballing the annual Bass Pro turkey catalog and bought everything that says it will get me a turkey. I will only be able to make it about 100 yards from the truck with all the new gear I bought, but if I am half as successful as the sales pitch says, we should be golden. Go ahead and put me down for a 16lb, 3/4" spurred Appalachian mountain gobbler that wouldn't know a cornfield if he was standing in it. If not, Bass Pro owes me some money.

Happy, you claim that you are the good looking guy on the team but how do we know this for sure? What about some of these other distinguished GOATs when they were younger?
Might give you a run for your money.
We need to see some pictures of them back when they were your age, you know like 40 or 50 years ago.🙂

OnlyJakeFans

Hey, everyone.

This is OnlyJakeFans. Despite my name, i don't have an OnlyFans and I haven't shot a Jake in about 5 or 6 years. I've been hunting turkeys since about 2013 or so. I'm really good friends with RLAG, and we usually hit a couple states together each year.

Currently I've got some time to kill because I'm waiting on my flight to FL to chase some Osceolas tomorrow morning.

I'm new to this contest and am hoping for some good ole banter and big ole gobblers to come our way

You see Happy? That's a handsome guy right there no doubt! Especially if you like the strong, silent, crazy type. 🤣

He gas to be good-looking and crazy to be on the GOATS. That's a requirement. So is the ability able to eat a case of oatmeal creampies followed by chugging a quart of maple syrup. Gotta stay in form if your gonna slay Sabbaticals.

Welcome to the team OJF.  Hope that Osceola hunt works out. Make sure you report back in and let us know how things are going.

Howdy. I am the real best looking one in the bunch. Just ask my wife. I live in the deepest darkest jungle in TN. Actually do kill turkeys. At least I shoot them till they throw me out of Kroger. Hey I was doing those poor frozen birds a favor! I have been chasing birds since the 80s so I am not old and decrepit like some of these other fellers. Truthfully I am a horrible cut up and wouldn't intentionally hurt a fly. The last two years I was down for the count most of turkey season but unless something happens I am good to go this year. I am planning on killing my birds with my black powder guns this year since That is what I was going to do before the staph infection, gout, kidney stones and heart gone nuts. I look forward to playing the game with you gentlemen this year.

Well reflexl, I have one piece of advice this year. If Crow invites you over for a sabbatical cookout, don't eat the darn thing rare. I don't care what he says it's not safe to eat undercooked sabbatical and creme pies will not counteract anything. You should know a crow can eat 10 day old deer carcass and not get sick. I hope you learned your lesson. As far as the good looking part, yeah that's up for debate.

crow

10 day old deer isn't even starting to ferment yet, look on YouTube at faroe island fermented sheep.  :newmascot:

reflexl

Advice taken. I heard you can pour vinegar on it and eat it. Not sure I trust that. I have been spying out sabbatical habitat. Getting an early jump on things. Spotted a pretty good one but no world record. I'll keep after them.
