bass fishing......

I just got to try out bass fishing a few days ago and Im hooked. I got hooked up with a monster only to lose it due to fishing 2lb trout line lol. But I will be back to the lil secret pond by my house and catch that monster. Its not like he can be far since the pond is about the size of half a football field or smaller, like  the infield of a mens baseball dimond.
Any advice on technic and tackle is welcomed

Pick you up some Culprit or Zoom brand worms in red/shad in the Culprit brand or black/red glitter in the Zoom brand.  Blue, purple and black also will work great.  The first two mentioned are my favorite.  I used to keep count of my fish.  One year I caught over 600 bass.  And about half of them came on a plastic worm.  It's just a hard bait to beat.  

I also like Cotton Cordell Rattlin Spots in the blue and chrome color.  In the spring the crawdad version will work as well as the Rat-L-Trap brand.  I have caught a ton of bass on these things.  In the colder months, it's hard to beat a jig and pig with a good trailer.  

Topwater baits will work in the summer.  Buzz paits and minnow plugs and Zara Spook and even a Pop-R will work well.

I used to tournament fish when I was younger on a local club. I didnt fish the lakes, but love fishing the rivers. I found that river bass would eat up spinner baits, texas rigged worms, jerk worms, and shallow running crank baits. They usually stick tight to cover.

Couple of other things that get over looked fishing in public waters....the older bigger bass see a bunch of different things thrown at them. Change it up a bit. I used to have good luck fishing a 3 inch hot pink texas rig worm on a 1/8 ounce black sinker. I also had great luck switching to a lower gear ratio reel. All the modern bait casters are 6.1 to 7.2 gear ratio now days, I have an old lews that is like 4.8 and an old one that is 5.2....I catch bass sometimes on that when others dont. I had 17 bass in the boat to my friends zero. We had the same line and lure. He had the 6.1 gear ration, mine was the 4.8. Something about the presentation made them tear mine up that day. Another secret weapon of mine is during the spawn. I use the culprit jerk worm beige coloration and pinch the back two inches of the tail off of it. I rig this with a 1 ought hook, and a split shot sinker about 18 inches above it. I throw this into the bed and they seem to hit it way more often than other stuff.

Black and blue bitsy bug with a black and blue trailer, fished like a plastic worm (hopped off the bottom). Spinner bait with silver blades, white and chartruse skirt and white trailer. Black on black for night fishing slow rolled and get ready to get your arm broken on the strike. As well as all the baits mentioned above.

Maybe he likes hotdogs , that's what my grand daughter uses on our pond ,is about 3 acres. That and the rubber worms in red and black.

If he's hungry he (probably a she) will eat anything. Use what you hooked her on last time just heavier tackle.

Pond fish if not pressured are very easy to fool. You could go with a heavy mono or a braid. I don't bass fish often, but we do have a pond on our hunting lease and the fish will eat anything that can't eat them first.

That's some savy advice right there!!  Ol Catdaddy knows a thing or two about catching fish! It is tough to be a live perch or bluegill when trying to catch a big one!

My favorite pond lure is a culprit worm (red shad), Texas rigged.  Also a small spinner bait will do good
